X55 worth getting?
-
Plane just seems to go into a stall and i crash…and doesnt seem like my roll and pitch inputs with the stick are having any effect.
-
Tried the takeoff TE a minute ago and i just go around in circles at the start of the runway, like its got a mind of its own. The only control i noticed working was i think DMS down which was changing SOI.

Firstly thing to check is that the stick (not throttle) is set as the controller on the very first setup page. Then make sure nothing is mapped to any trim controls (for now)
Would help if you explain what happens upon the point of rotation. Ideally you want to be able to pull up into a 5 degree claims and it should stabilise at that hands off…no roll or rapid climb or decent detected…
-
In advanced settings trim yaw/pitch and roll are set to keyboard. All manual trim controls are mapped to keyboard using shift+alt and something. I have the X55 stick set for controller on the first setup page, though i noticed i can also select the X55 throttle as a separate controller in the controller drop down menu which seems odd.
-
Throttle axis in advanced settings is set to keyboard and there are various options to change that to. Obviously i want it set to the X55 throttle, but there are 3 options which are Z Axis, X and Y rotation, and when i change one of those to say Z axis and i come out of it back to the main setup page, well once i go back into advanced settings again the throttle axis has set itself back to keyboard again.

Thing is i’m pressing nothing and when in the basic handling TE the plane goes into a spin pretty much and i start rapidly descending…and in the takeoff TE (TE training missions) i start off at the start of the runway, i’m pressing nothing and the plane just starts to move sideways and i just go round and round in circles.
And like i said, i’m pressing nothing at all, not pulling on the stick, pressing no buttons or moving the throttle…

CNS,
Sorry you’re having issues but we’ll get you flying right.
First, I assume you have downloaded the latest drivers from the Saitek site.
Second, in BMS go into settings , on the page that on the right shows the key commands, and on the left set the stick as controller.
Third( and I’m not at my pc so someone back me up if needed), but go into advanced settings. There are three tabs(I think flight, avionics are two of them) . Go through each function, and move the control, you should see the little “graphs” move.
I don’t remember setting the basic controls as being difficult. Most people use Rotary 1 as gain(it’s called range) and rotary 2 as rdr antenna elevation. If you have a set of rudder pedals, then one tip is to click on the reverse button next to the axis. Otherwise your brakes are locked on the Ramp! If you do not have a set of rudders, then leave brakes as keyboard and map a button on the stick for it. I’ve used the button on rotary 2 with success.
When you get to programming functions(TMS,etc) I hope this link will help. http://falcon-online.org/forum/index.php?topic=1931.0.
The people who set up BMS did a LOT of great work with manuals. Look in your install Docs folder. If you want to fly the Viper true to real life, learn TMS, DMS cursor enable, pinky fov, and the override modes(Dogfight and MRM) .
Finally, don’t get frustrated! I can tell you I had more then my share of misadventures getting started. Stick with it, it’s worth it. -
I assume you have tried to calibrate the controllers before launching BMS.
Either via Windows or the saitek software? And yes in advanced screen throttle should be chosen…not keyboard.
As you set it an indicator should appear next to it which you can check to make sure it works.
Also…important i think???
Resave the profile.key after every change!!
It’s important to know which are axis and which are notaries too…I wrote mine down at first so when choosing from a drop down menu you know which is which.

Sorted thanks man. I’ll have a go at mapping things next and have a go with these training missions

What should i bind my 4 rotaries to? i’ve noticed G and F rotaries also have buttons…would be good to see someones’ X55 setup.

I have mine as follows:
G = Radar Ant Elev
F = Tgt Pod Zoom
RTY 3 & 4 = Trim -
I’m having a nightmare. I had my throttle/stick axis sorted yeterday as i mentioned i just and went to start mapping buttons, i was actually copying someones’ profile. Then i noticed on the main setup page when i was messing with the throttle lever, that the throttle gauge to the right wasnt moving up and down, so im now back to the problem i had yesterday. The problem is that in advanced settings for the throttle, the pitch and roll axis has been assigned to it, which explains why my plane goes round in circles and out of my control. In advanced throttle settings i wanted to change pitch/roll axis to keyboard but it wont, and stays with the throttle. I was able to sort it out yesterday and now i cant, no idea why…HELP

@cns - Isn’t Gary in the same timezone as you? I would recommend that the two of you get on TS3 and go through the setup. I am located on the east coast (U.S.) myself…would love to help but the time difference may be a problem.

Ok seems i have it sorted again, and think i’ve recognised the problem. The problem is when i change controller to throttle on the main setup page, when i do that, it overrides what i had previously set as throttle. I had set the throttle as X axis in advanced settings when i had stick selected as controller. Problem now is i previously had my rotaries setup. F being TGP range, G being antenna elevation, RTY 3 as HUD brightness and RTY 4 as HMCS brightness. But whenever i select a different controller on main setup page these seem to get wiped. So i have to somehow set all these up through having just the stick selected as controller, but now for some reason it seems only the 3 rotaries are detected.
-
Do not change the controller on the setup page…leave it as joystick…repeat…do not change ever.
-
haha, yep i’ve learned that lesson and hopefully now can set it up right!
-
Great! Now make your changes to your HOTAS and it should remain if you save it.
-
Ok so now as i said only 3 rotaries seem to be detected with having stick as controller on the setup page, and it is the top rotary (F) which isnt detected, which is more useful than where RTY 3 and 4 are positioned. Drac…i take it your top rotary is detected?
-
Let me turn on my computer and I will advise.
-
Ah no its ok, 3 of my rotaries show up as X,Y and Z rotation, and the top rotary shows up as Z axis, which had me confused but figured it out now, so i have those set back up again
