HOTAS Cougar Vs Windows 10
-
I am considering OS upgrade to Win 10-64. Win 7-64 works fine now, but it won’t be viable much longer. I use my modded Cougar with a customized profile consisting of DX and key press functions that I maintain with Foxy. I do not use T.A.R.G.E.T. My home pit also has a CH panel, rudders and Cougar MFD’s. I have read on these forums of folks having issues with the Cougar under Win 10-64; but I can not get a sense of whether the issues are generalized or specific to individual systems.
So….I would like to see some posts from sim pilots who have managed to use the Cougar with Win 10-64 and whether any special installation techniques were required.

So far I’ve read mostly nightmarish stories w/r to Cougar vs. win10, of course that could mean that the “happy” win10 users simply don’t chime in with their “all is well” reports.
Out of interest, why do you say win7 isn’t viable much longer?
According to the support matrix, you’ll receive updates until at least 2020.
Cheers, Uwe
EDIT: The devs recommend win7 as the BMS platform of choice in the manuals, and their word is regarded as scripture… faced with either win10 or BMS, I know what I’d choose any day or the week

Win10 x64 and Cougar user here. All is well. I don’t use T.A.R.G.E.T. I use the old Cougar software in it’s latest version, just as I did when I had Win7.
I have been using Windows 10 as an insider since a few months before it was officially released, and in my experience, anything that worked on Win7 will work on Win10 without issues. The operating systems are very similar under the hood, and compatibility is great.
Does the hardware reset for the cougar work ok?

Hi, I have been running windows 10 with the cougar since August. I use only DX input for the cougar. I have not had any issues, however having said that I have not needed to flash the cougar since win 10 (or about 2008 for that matter) so i can’t speak to that. I use all the equipement list in my sig very happily in win10

1 last bump.

Before update from Win7x64 to Win10 my Cougar was working perfect.
After the Win10 update no more DX buttons recognition.
Same installation, same profile in my pc.I didn’t manage to solve it yet.

Really? Make sure you are using “2007_HCO_VISTA_64RC1” and run the installation with administrator rights.
Double checked and even foxy I run it with admin rights.
It needs more investigation at my end to say it for sure what the issue is.
I will keep you posted about results.
Thanks Brisse. -

Yes, I have been able to flash my unmodded Cougar with Win 10/64 using the normal procedures (unplug, then plug back in with trigger depressed for a few seconds). I have done it on at least two occasions since installing Win 10/64.

I recently installed win 10 on my Mac via bootcamp problem free. I programmed the cougar directly in BMS. I’m a novice, so there was a lot of trial and error, but I eventually got it done. I just installed 4.33 yesterday, and it runs fine.
