How to start Theater development
-
I can’t get this to work either. No matter what I do, I can’t load the HDR file.

if you’re on WIn7 or above, just run it in administrator mode. worked for me

I have still problem opening this Worldmap file in my Dem2Terrain. Did anyone who had problem before succeed in finding what was the problem?
or…
Is there any alternative method available to download dem , old method perhaps from NOAA (forgot the link)? -
Unfortunately, I have not been successful at all. I have DEM data that I managed to finagle using GDAL tools but without the E00 files, dem2terrain is kinda useless at this point. I’m looking into where I might find the file format so I can roll my own using *.shp files and DEM data along with Blue Marble tiles. I already have tiles for the terrain as well as VFR/IFR charts of any area in the world, I just need to know how to write the files needed. I read on Monster’s Terrain Tool documentation about Segments/Tiles but no headers or anything useful for a programmer like myself. I’ve written 3d terrain engines before and since I’m on a BMS kick with the new 4.33 I wanted to do a middle-east theater of Iraq,Iran,Afghanistan.
From what I gather, the L2/O2 files are nothing more than a binary tree system. But again, without the headers to know what data is stored where, I’m shooting in the dark.

it’s sad to read it’s still not working on your rig.
While you’re closer to BMS devs now, one alternate would be to ask
their terrain master dev about his tool or if you’re open to experiment then
(re-)read close what I’ve written in the large size theaters thread.Cheers,

Reiser,
I’m sure something has changed in the past years, but …

I believe the main tool for theater development which is Terrain Editor by Monster is not compatible with BMS 4.33.
So till then it would be hard to work on theaters.
I don’t know if a simple renaming of folders will be ok to work with Terrain Editor… cause on manual open folders I get an L2 File not found. -
hi Arty
I’ve had monsters terrain editor working ok with 4.33 theatres, but only when I rename my l2 file to ‘theater.l2’
not sure if that is the issue there?

I did this as well in order to see my work on L2/O2 files.

LSI came across this shortly after posting. So I wrote a quick reader based on that info and found that it’s not up to date

NP really as it is working fine on the other Win10 laptop. It was really a challenge for me what it was not working on the older rig and I think it was a matter of either OS, or memory which was needed to open it.

Can you point to me which post exactly? Thanks.
