A couple of F/A-18 issues

#2 is based on 1.) Your last saved data card and, 2.) which airbase you are departing from. That is, if you use the 2D function for “Set Tower” for the preset radio freq, it is based on the departing airbase and/or carrier.
Assuming you are flying off of the carrier, you can:
- “Set Tower” in the 2D preset function and it should change the freq for that preset to the carrier freq.
- Manually overwrite a preset in the 2D preset function to the carrier freq.
- Manually enter the correct carrier freq using the DED in the AC.
Turning on the DED should occur if you’re following a “proper” ramp start procedure. You can use the one I posted on YouTube (
), or there are several others on YouTube if you find that lacking. The DED will not come up immediately, but shortly after the MFDs run their test routine, if I recall correctly.
Thanks, A_B.
Do you not have to turn up the DED brightness, as in in Viper in 4.33? I flew a whole mission without it coming up.
As for the comm question, yes it works to set it manually. I was hoping the DTC would help me a bit, as the Boats are identified as “Carrier2”,Carrier 18", etc.
BTW, I didn’t remember this until after my previous post, but in the ATO the Hornet squadron is listed at Kunsan airbase , not on the CVN. I think that may be why it’s making the DTC not act like it normally does. “Set tower” takes me to Kunsan. -

Yes, that is 100% normal and expected.
No, I do NOT have to adjust the DED brightness in either the F16 nor the F/A-18 in BMS 4.33. It is on at ramp start and at an acceptable level of brightness. I don’t even know where to adjust the DED brightness in an F16.

cockpit lighting panel, same place you adjust flood lighting and panel backlighting.

It’s good to hear I didn’t somehow mess up the install.
And thx, Blue. So, it looks like my options (from our BMS cockpit doc) is Inst pnl,warning/ caution, or chart.
BTW, everyone that means the Doc has an error. DED Brightness is listed as the upper right UFC bright-dim knob. I’ll test it out and let everyone know.
Plus, I’m going to keep looking for a way to put the Viper cockpit in. With that in mind, let me ask again. Does anyone know what the Hornet cockpit folder is called in ckptart ? -
Im not sure if my meaning was clear, so to clarify, I was responding to Agave_Blue about where to adjust DED brightness in an F-16. Ive not flown the hornet in 4.33 at all, so Ive no clue on it there.

If the knob in the F18 pit does not work, you could use keyboard commands for the same result. These commands control DED brightness. If they are not in your keyfile, you can add them by copy & paste:
SimDedBrightnessCW 116 0 0XFFFFFFFF 0 0 0 1 “LIGHT: DED Knob (Primary) - Step Up”
SimDedBrightnessCCW 116 0 0XFFFFFFFF 0 0 0 1 “LIGHT: DED Knob (Primary) - Step Down”Once (or if) the commands are in your keyfile, go to the BMS Setup Controller UI, assign keys to them, taking care not to use keys already assigned to something else.
I did check the F18 and the knob isn’t there, nor any ‘hot spot’ to use a mouse to change DED brightness. The only way is by assigning the callback to a key, switch or button.

…if there’s a DED in the Hornet model, it’s DED wrong.

Sorry, most of us speak viperese as a primary language. What is the proper translation?
-
…DEAD wrong…

Good morning, All. I promised I’d come in and update this, so…
- I was able to get the DED showing using Shift+Alt+z. The cockpit Doc is incorrect, it shows the upper right brightness knob on the Hornet UFC as the control. In the Sim, that control is inactive. Also, the DED knob is not on the Hornet’scockpit’s lighting panel.
- The Comms issue was solved by setting the WDP comms to the correct freq. Usually the Sim’s DTC seems to override the WDP, but in this case the opposite was observed.

…at least they got the knobs right.
