JSOW Protocol?

I was reading in the training manual about how to release JSOWs. I just want to release 1 JSOW at a time. I want to make sure I get this right please correct any thing that I have missed.
1. Press A-G button on ICP.
2. SMS Page: PWR OFF to PWR ON by pressing the OSB next to PWR OFF.(Im skipping the next 2 steps - I just want to release one at a time).
3. Set Attack Parameters by Pressing OSB19 (Next to Triangle symbol). Pressing OSB19 will add an additional JSOW side by side. Pressing OSB19 again changes the formation of the JSOWs. Selecting more than 1 JSOW to be released a spacing option appears on OSB18.
4. Press OSB18 to set spacing between the 2 JSOWs . Enter the spacing and press OSB 3 ENTR.5. Set A-G FCR to 40 Nm Scope.
6. Set TGP to A-G.
7. Set the N/M (North/Meterstick) option by selecting it on the TGP CNTL page.
8. “Zoom” in on the FCR by going into Expanded DBS2 mode.
9. Set Markpoint: Press ICP MARK page and hit TMS UP to create a Markpoint.
10. Press ICP M-SEL to make the Markpoint the active steerpoint.
11. Undesignate the A-G FCR.
12. Cancel all slews by hitting CZ (OSB 9) on the FCR.
13. Select the SMS CNTL page.Do I need to do step 14 if I’m just releasing one JSOW at a time?
14. Set ATK AZ (Attack Azimuth is in degrees).15. Set EGEA (End Game Entry Altitude - height bomb will burst) to 2500 FT.
16. Set ROB (Range On Bearing) leave at default 4.00 NM.
17. Exit the SMS CNTL page.
18. Fly towards the Target Steerpoint and wait until the HUD reports JIZ (JSOW in Zone).
19. When JIZ falls within the launch brackets press and hold the Pickle button for at least 1.6 seconds for 1 JSOW.After the bomb is released can I turn away from target and setup another target (fire and forget) or do I need to stay on target until bomb hits?

You can go and drink a cup of tea or whatever.
After you released it, it’s doing things on its own

Looks good to here

13. Select the SMS CNTL page.
Do I need to do step 14 if I’m just releasing one JSOW at a time?
14. Set ATK AZ (Attack Azimuth is in degrees). No, but it will fly straight to target and drop the clusters … If you are flying in-line with the column ( and the column is not spread-out ) you can get max. effect because it will overfly the target. If it hits perpendicular, you get fewer hits ( the “frag pattern” is oval not round ) If you spend some time to determine the alignment of the column-- then set the heading {even for a single}, get the jet aligned ±60 deg. from the desired end heading (the JSOW can’t make sharp turns), get in range and hold the pickle until release.
15. Set EGEA (End Game Entry Altitude - height bomb will burst) to 2500 FT.
Sort of – think of it as the approach altitude … it will dive to the optimal “drop altitude” or burst altitude + arming delay
16. Set ROB (Range On Bearing) leave at default 4.00 NM.
17. Exit the SMS CNTL page.

Yep, bring it down the DLZ a bit, I’ve had them fall short from the top of the bracket… I like 20NM @ FL250+ and speed in range
Turn away, after all it is a standoff weapon and you can admire your work from a distance.
They are SLOOOOW! You can easily get to the target before they do (same thing with SDBs) – Turn away, eat a sandwich, call your Mom and catch-up the latest news from the Garden Club, then look back to see if the units are saying “thank you Sir, can I have another?”.

Locking the FCR sets SPI and essentially creates a pseudo-steerpoint for the JSOW
You don’t have to go FTT/MTT right?
-
FTT sets SPI , so yes –
or,
if nothing locked and cursor is ZERO, it will fly to the steerpoint selected (especially useful if a SAM site has been designated during recon)
-
SPI is moved by FCR GM cursors without FTT.
-
So what’s your point? You can fire it at nothing, but I prefer to aim first. I have, however, fired in TGP area mode to “lead” a moving column - but it’s a low percentage shot given how slow it is. Like hitting moving car with a paper airplane.
-
Can you help me with this: JSOW selected and powered up, rdy to launch, default CNTL settings, master arm on, I got FCR FTT on target from 20-30 NM, refined with TGP. Then JSOW bracket appeared on HUD, but there was no carret. I thought the distance was to long, but when I was closer, it didn’t appear and finally I overflew the target without being given JIZ indication and launch authorization. Then i never was able to use JSOW again in this mission. My wingies did the job, tough.
Another situation: I was prepared for JSOW launch, having JIZ. When the carret was not so low on the bracket meaning I had some time - suddenly JIZ and bracket disappeared before pickle.
-
Probably speed related. Check the min and max launch speeds for that weapon type.
-
Could also be a classic case of unarmed Master Arm.
FTT sets SPI , so yes –

So, does the JSOW disregard SPI deltas as long as FTT or TGP area/point is not commanded? Or can you slew to a target and pickle a shot of opportunity without TMSing anything? (not that it is good practice or something I’d do, but I’d like to know)
-
Only in mission pre-planned mode which isn’t implemented yet. The answer is yes, if for example you are in GMT and slew SPI in front of some moving column the JSOWs will track toward SPI.
-
I turn on JSOW power after taking off, ask AWACS for vector to target, use 20nm Gm or GMT in expanded mode; very easy to then see the columns or moving vehicles and narrow TGP works every time.
