New Player, Should I Even Bother?

…abandon all hope, ye whom enter here. At least for 3-4 weeks…maybe more.

OK, Falcon Online was mentioned above. They provide a fantastic multi-player service with their own Teamspeak comms channels, specially tweaked campaigns/theaters and a great many participants. Check them out here:
They are currently preparing for their next online campaign in the Balkans theater. Several squadrons also provide a companionable place to fly with comrads. Your girlfriend will soon discover that FSX may be fun to fly around in for awhile, but can not begin to provide an air combat experience anything like BMS.

From a long time FSX flier, you are correct, brother.

+1 falcon online is definitely the place to get some online action.

Yeah she has no plans to stay in FSX, she just has zero simulator experience so right now she is learning basics in the Cessna 172 and messing around with the Learjet 45 and F/A-18.
How does Falcon Online work? Does it run in seasons like the Starcraft 2 ladder? If I miss the signup for the campaign do I have to sit out or can I jump in whenever?
-
Falcon online usually runs a 24/7 coop server where you can jump in anytime. Then about every 2 months I think they run a force on force. Registration opens a couple weeks before and you pick your side. Reg it’s normally open till seven days into the war which is actually a week since once the server opens it runs 24 hours a day for about three weeks. So as long as you get your name in on time you can fly as much or as little as you want. Generally for new guys they won’t let you join force on force until you’ve been around for a while and can confirm that you are comfortable with the basics of flying the SIM.
-
Falcon Online operates a dedicated, extremely stable, server that continuously runs a Falcon BMS campaign, read online war 24/7, until one side achieves victory, which takes up to 4 weeks. An interested pilot signs up with Falcon Online folks to fly for either the red or blue side. Pilots can watch the campaign progress and either join a flight someone else has planned or plan his own mission to advance the war effort for his/her side. Very often a human will be providing weapons controller (AWACS) info in real time. Falcon Online provides one of the more challenging multi-player experiences you will find.
-
To get experience Falcon Online is by far the best place because the coop server is set up more to practice and show people the ropes rather than to win the campaign. It’s an excellent place to practice skills in between force on force campaigns. Also the FO community is full of people with years of experience in the sim and are always willing to help out new pilots.
-
There will be lot of new improvements in the Stand alone campaign in the next BfB, but the best thing will be in the force on force server with lot of different flyable aircraft for Humans. I am personally looking forward to the Force on Force event.
The FvF registration will start very soon because i know lot of killer pilots are waiting for that
-
Buddy who doesn’t love some Falcon Online. In my opinion outside of being in a wing and flying with others who fly like minded, FO is the place that these wings go to represent, challenge themselves or others, and get the most out of Falcon you can. It’s a great place to meet others in such a direct way as opposed to over Forums and the PMs you can actually chat over TS. The best about FO is when the servers are up and running there is almost always another pilot because it spans the world there is never much of a lull than a couple hours. Wait until the first 4.33 FvF at FO. It is going to be some of the best flying in YEARS!

Will there be CV based Hornets?
Watch out Mower my Viper eats Hornets for breakfast, barb and all. It’s hungry and hasn’t flown FvF in 4 months

Spoiler Alert
Next BfB force on force will be feature Flyable aircraft such as: F-16 52/40/AM/BM, F-18C from carriers, Tornado, Mirage C/D and Harrier. Now For the FRY side: F-16 Aggressor A/B/C, MiG-29S and Cy-27
Now SAM sites are going to be harder to kill since we have decided to remove AGM-88. I know what you guys are thinking but it’s too easy to kill SAM site with a 88. Plus no AGM-154 either. Some what limited load out for the AA weapons too. For example station 1,2,8,9 will only be able to carry AIM-120 or AIM-9, Station 3,7 will only be able to carry AIM-9 or A-G, for station 6,4 only fuel tanks.
All the load out and aircraft above is for Force On Force not the stand alone. Stand alone will be like KTO theater. Fry aircraft on the red side and NATO aircraft on the blue side.

Nope not in the force on force it won’t carry that much. Limited load out for Hornets too.
