SimShaker for DCS World and Falcon BMS support thread

Hi Craig,
that’s a good idea. But, you probably had in mind to monitor Pitch, not Yaw?
Would you please, as a software developer, share your ground bumps method with me?I got interested in this idea, so I whipped up a quick prototype. It beeps when it detects a runway bump, which is a simple threshold on zDot in the shared data. It seems to match up well for me to what I see the FPM doing as I taxi. The code is here:
https://github.com/candera/g-seat/blob/master/experiments/runway-bump/Program.cs#L603-L637
Hope you find it helpful! It’s in C#, but even if that’s not what you’re using the algorithm is really straightforward. You might need to play with it a bit to get it to be really nice - I only went for “barely working”, although it actually seems fairly robust.

Thanks a lot for sharing that, Craig.
Tell me please what FPM stands for? -
Flight path marker. The symbol in the HUD that shows where the aircraft is going. Looks like a circle with lines coming out the sides and top.

Hi,
I’m interested in purchasing one of these.
Can anyone in the UK tell me what happens when it gets to the UK customs? Does it get held until I pay the bill?
And what would be the amount of tax on that around £20? -

Mine stopped working all together. Buttkicker is working, but all of a sudden nothing at all coming from Simshaker today.

Check the place where you put in your authorization string key and see if it switched back to demo. I had to email Andre for a new one because of some error that lost it. Other thing is make sure the sound output is going to the right item, I’ve had that change around after I rearranged some sound ouputs.

Mine says authorization keys are not ready

Please see at Sound Module window, not SimShaker window.

Thanks. For some reason it changed my audio output device in sound module. Working now.

Sound Module remembers a sound device position number, not the device itself. When you change number of sound output devices (e.g. plug in or unplug USB headset) Sound Module can change selected device and you need to adjust it.

Hmmmm, don’t think I plugged or unplugged anything (don’t have a USB headset), must have been Windows then (or maybe nVidia audio driver install with video drivers). Oh well, it is ok anyway.

Thanks for the reply. I tested it out in demo mode and I could feel the runway and landing bump. The only problem is the rate of the taxiway bumps is constant, no matter if I’m going 1 mph or 100 mph
Hi pilots,
I’ve re-cheked ground bumps effect at my end.
With Buttkicker Gamer 2 it works fine. But, the effect is complex and consits of- rolling vibe (hp_4_0_4.wav sample is used)
- bumps (hp_4_0_1.wav sample is used)
- touchdown (hp_4_0_2.wav sample is used)
- belly landing (hp_4_0_3.wav sample is used)
Rolling part is constant and doesn’t depend on speed. I suppose you feel this part in your chair.
Bumps part depends on speed. I suggest that you don’t feel it for some reason.
Transducers may be pretty vary and, if other than Buttkicker Gamer 2 is used, I’d recommend to try adjusting correspondent .wav sample(s) as described here in Advanced setup. How to fine tune sound samples to fit your simulation rig section. -
Hey guys, still following this one with interest….
Two questions if I may?-
I read that the software reads the shared mem, is there a future plan to also give feedback for G’s?
When I flew the fixed real airforce sims the pilot got G feedback from the cushion they were sitting on (butt only no back) the cushion was inflating (actually squeezing the back of the upper legs) according to G meter.
It is quite unrealistic I agree, but I always found that short of a full anti G suit it’s pretty close to an ideal solution for Combat sim enthousiats.
Is this something that could be possible with this solution? -
Would the jetseat works Under real aces 2 cushion? Or do we really have to sit on it to get effect
I like the idea of getting vibes in my pit, but I am not sure I am ready to replace my aces seat cushion with the massage seats. I’m not sure I’d like the look of my seat (if you don’t mind me saying Andre)
Thanks

Is this something that could be possible with this solution? It can only vibrate, not inflate, so I’m not sure the effect would be the same. If it vibrates with G, it could be mistakenly interpreted as the vibration you get from high AOA, speed brake shudder etc I assume?

I’ve placed it underneath a small cushion and on the hardest settings it’s still feelable. However, the harder you need to set everything, the less differentiation you can make between situations. For example I have rolling bumps during taxi very very faint and gun fire en ejection max shaking. When I need to up the vibration of the taxi bumps to feel it enough through the cusion, the already max setting of gun fire feels less violent then compared to the upped taxi vibrations.
Always welcome to come test my seat, or I can drop by, if I’m ever somewhere in the neighbourhood. - Would the jetseat works Under real aces 2 cushion? Or do we really have to sit on it to get effect

G’s specifically no, but it does give high AOA shudder and when combined with that, the pilot grunt, and the HCMS G readout I feel like I have enough G SA. But for just the simulation of Gs and other movement check out the Bergison G seat on youtube and the one Candera is building.
As Candera said, I believe the G Seat and the Jetseat would compliment each other quite nicely. The Jetseat alone is the poorman’s/I don’t want to build all that into my seat solution

Hi Red Dog,
thanks for the picture, your cockpit is amazing. What a pity I do not get to Belgium too much
G-feeling effects is in my nearest plan. I’ve implemented that for DCS F-15C and Su-27 JetSeat effects and, having some encouraging feedback from users (link), I’m going to spread it to BMS F-16 as well.
I suppose you could place JeatSeat under your goodlooking cushion and have almost the same vibe feeling. Or you could refactor JetSeat as you like. Please see a good example here (link) -

Yeah there’s your ticket RD with the rebuild. I’m sure you could find similar fabric to the ACES cushion! Also forgot to mention in my previous post, I doubt you remember my thread over at viperpits from a loooong time ago trying to get a G Suit to inflate, but I can tell you that the pneumatics aren’t fun to work with and I think Bergison’s/Candera’s method of move seat flaps makes not only more engineering sense but also give more directional feedback as well. We’ll see how things go like budgets and such but really the thing I want the most after the Jetseat and before the G Seat is a belt tension system. I still remember the first time I went inverted in a plane, I really noticed the shoulder harness. In the big scheme of things that would be pretty easy to do with a servo system.

In my DCS method I involve left or right side vibe motors accordingly to bank value,
buttocks/low back or shoulders accordingly to Gy sign,
vibration strength is set accordingly to Gy value.
