Noob TIR user q

Okay, great info. 2 more qs.
1. F7 Precicion - on or off?
2. Should i use ‘Falcon 4.0’ line for BMS in trackir software? -
1. off - as Frederf said it’s a gimmick. If you set up your TIR properly you will not need to slow it down to make if more precise.
2. up to you - as Frederf said set it up how your prefer. Customise it per software title if you want, use one profile for everything if not. -
No no, what i meant by q2 - in games list there’s Falcon 4.0 and Falcon AF. So if i attach my profile to ‘Falcon 4.0’ it will be used when i start 4.32/33 correct?

Correct, “Falcon 4.0” is what TIR recognize, not AF.

You’ll be surprised what titles are recognized for what actual software. The brand new Dirt Rally game is recognized as “Dirt 2.” Just run TIR and the software and check the TIR window to see what title it thinks it is.

Ok, i’m halfway there. The current problem is: ‘zero’ of 3d cockpit is a bit too high to be TIR ‘zero’ for me. Even with fov on max, i can only see top halves of MFDs. I am used to ‘classic’ centre view with fov set so that in ‘center’ view screen’s bottom is about bottom of MFDs.
I think there was some option in the config. But i spent about 5 hours in front of the monitor already today and feeling hazy - so, perhaps a friendly hand-shortcut may work -
You’ll find a good head position to adopt when pressing re-center that results in the calibration you want.
-
Umm, nope. The cockpit ‘zero’ is what deadzones are around. I want some deadzone around my fav view, not the ‘no mfd’ view. I hope i’m being clear this time…. Srry

I want ‘second press of 3’ to be my center…

Try Yassy’s Profile. it’s a good starting profile TIR.

I’m on it… Won’t help this BMS shortcoming sadly
In DCS the 3d cockpit center is correct and includes the mfds - not just hud and icp… Perhaps a simple code patch to bms is possible? I am amazed that it’s not #1 problem already. Sure, many folks have external MFDs and instruments, negating the need for good ‘inclusive’ center view… But not everybody can afford it etc… I knew there’s something too good to be true re: bms+tir… Now i know what. -

Don’t use sensitivity notches and deadzones. It’s common to treat the “zero” position as somehow sacred when you start and want to make a sticky spot at that location but it’s unneeded reverence.

I think i’ll try disabling pitch axis on tir and just wait for the fix to BMS code…
-
If you want the default view in BMS to be the pilot looking down into the cockpit you’ll have a long wait, it’s not realistic. One of the key features of the F-16 is the great visibility; pilots talk about feeling like they’re sitting on top of a rocket. If you want to feel like you’re sitting down inside a cockpit with lots of metal around you then the A-10 is indeed going to be more to your liking.
If you want your default view to be more like an A-10 then just tilt your head up slightly then re-centre your TrackIR. When you move your head back to a level position you will be looking down into the cockpit.
-
That’s been suggested i think 3 times already itt.
Tell me then, why ‘3’ have 2 views (with TIR disabled)? One is ‘uppity’ and second is what i want. -
I don’t understand you problem. If you are using TIR then looking at your MFD’s is easy … you just look down a bit. Real fighter pilots (and some VR Pilots) keep there head moving constantly scanning the airspace around you. You only go head-down when you really need it - maybe to lock a target and start an intercept or to set the target for a Maverick or LGB delivery but you then fly head-up using the cues on your HUD to prosecute the attack.
Why do you want to lose some out side SA to watch MFD’s all the time?
If you do then Darkman’s suggestion is the best and quickest way to get y the view you want while using TIR. The key shortcuts are designed to help you when you don’t have TIR … hence a glance down to look at your MFD with a ‘3’ key press.

As mentioned before, the problem is that there is a deadzone around cockpit ‘zero’. Whatever i do i cannot keep stable ‘downglance’ to work with mfds. It either sticks to the ‘zero’ (yassy’s profile) or i have to keep my head superstable to work with mfds… A little deadzone around that area would help tremendously. I will try achieving that with tir software today (introduce a deadzone around -5deg pitch if that even possible) and remove 0deg pitch deadzone completely.
And i prefer night ops. No point in looking at darkness around
Would also love some input re z-axis vs fov. I think z-axis is more realistic, but i see lots of pilots use FOV. Why? -
I really recommend the flattest line but if you really want a notch about an arbitrary point, just build a notch around an arbitrary point. There’s nothing stopping you from shifting your profile graph curve left or right until the shape lines up as you want it.
-
Is it? Ok, that’s a great tip.
-
Inside Yasy’s thread there is a link for a moded version I did of it which I believe u will find it more convenient to work with mfd’s also u could increase the center deadzone to your likes. This means it will need more head movement for trackir to wake up and respond to your head movement.

The bottom of the TIR axis curve graph represents no movement = dead zone. The amount of dead zone is determined by the distance out from the graph center line of the first curve node when dragged to the bottom line.
