Falcon BMS Doesn't Save Settings
-
Hello, I love the game and the 4.33 update. However, for whatever reason, everytime I start the game up, I have to load my keyfile, rebind all of my axis, and set the music volume to zero. It never remembers that I previously had done this. Also, it doesn’t remember any of my friend’s IP addresses whenever I save them under COMMS. Please advise. Thanks!

Rebinding axes (but not buttons) sounds like the classic non-identical-game-controller issue. Test by setting up, quitting BMS, and immediately restarting without changing anything (unplugging joysticks, changing profile software, etc.). If the controls are not kept with this “no changes” test then that is a bigger problem.
Having to specify the keyfile is more worrying. I don’t know which file saves which keyfile is in use but check all files in user/config directory if they are read-only.
Comms sounds like a read-only issue.
You know, this all sounds like you installed BMS into a UAC-protected directory (like C:\Program Files or similar) and UAC is preventing non-administrator file edits.

My controller settings haven’t been saved as well… and I have set up, quit BMS and then re-entered. My BMS 4.33 is not within any UAC -protected directory. Upon re-opening, ( I have tried this process numerous times) it even set as the default controller one that wasn’t even plugged in… the keyboard. It LOVES that device !! I was hoping the controller would be the Warthog Joystick. Not once has it remembered that I had already setup the controls etc.
Now BMS 4.32 is a different matter. Same machine, controls etc. it remembers the Controller I have selected - everytime. Even the opening movie runs .Will any of the devs, compilers review and compare the coding to see why why BMS 4.32 saves, and BMS 4.33 does not? Sounds like a compilation routine not implemented.
My system is Windows 10, x99 -A ASUS Motherboard, i7 5960K, nVidia 980 Ti, 16 gigs DD4 ram . For DX devices I have The Warthog throttle, Joystick, Saitek pedals, 4 MFDs, keyboard, mouse.
After resetting all the controllers, and unplugging the two extra MFDs, BMS 4.33 works like a charm… With the 2 extra MFDs, the MFDs physically positioned as left and right (1 and 2 ) in the pit no longer retain their identity.
Thanks !!

Are you launching BMS without your controller profiles loaded? For example, if I don’t load my Warthog and Cougar profiles before launching my settings get reset.

Can you be more specific… when I see the phrase “Are you launching BMS without your controller profiles loaded” I am led to believe that there is a separate screen where I can load the profiles first, and then launch BMS 4.33. Is that a fair assessment ? I just checked the configuration screen, didn’t see any pre-loading of the controller profiles there… I am launching BMS 4.33 like I do BMS 4.32 - run the program as administrator, and then choosing launch. Once I have launched, I see no screen to load profiles until after I have gone into the controllers screen. If I load the profiles there, nothing changed regarding setting the AB, rudder axis etc.
If you are talking about running Target first, I hadn’t found that necessary within BMS 4.32 to have the controller I have selected come up as the controller of record, the rudder working and the throttle recognized.
Thanks for your inquiry… !!

I am having exact same issue. Weird thing is that it worked for about a week. Now that I think back, this started after Windows 10 upgrade. Hmmm.

I’m having this same issue, but oddly enough, only in the Avionics axis tab. Flight controls is fine, but I have to constantly re-assign the axes on my Warthog to control the avionics every time I open BMS. I’m using Windows 10 as well. Does anyone know which file the axis assignments gets saved in? I’d like to figure out if it’s write protected.

I think there’s a file called “axismappings.dat” or similar… might be worth a look.

I run 10, I load tracker and x52 first then start bms, go to controllers page, load my key file, save. start campaign.

have a check for the phonebook.ini file isn’t set as read only if it is unset it and try and save your comms entry then
same for axismapping.dat could be more but I cant rember of the top of my head
but if the files are set as read only then untick that and it should be ok
