Bms 4.33 using too mutch processer power
-
if it didn’t use it it wouldn’t take it.
Also this must be cause you have the ram.
In my win10 laptop I start in 2d with 1gb free ram . so even if it wants to eat 2.8 it can’t but runs and enters 3d… No campain no TE’s just instant action with keyb for a few minutes.
So as long as you have and provide it uses it.
I believe this is good cause instead of using more frequent hdd io’s it uses the ram to be more fast.

hi
i am using 32 bit … and i have nvidia gf gtx 670if OS allows it,
try 64 bit.
and make SURE you have “hi res textures” in the config turned OFF -
thnx for all
i will try to use it in 64bit
but i want to ask
is nvidia GF GTX 670 enough for this ? -

Falcon4 has been primarily CPU-bound since 1998. With recent [relatively] changes in the graphics engine, to introduce shaders and such, it’s no longer the case that any old graphics card will do – now you need something mid-range or better there, although it’s still not going to be used to the same extent as CPU.
It has always been the rule: for building the fastest (FPS) Falcon4 system buy the fastest CPU you can afford as measured by single threaded integer math performance. Falcon4 will suck up every last drop of CPU horsepower you can throw at it.
We are trying to work on changing the performance equation a bit but this is not the sort of thing that comes along in a minor update. Think 4.34 (or later).
-
according to http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/ the 4790k reigns supreme even over the skylake procs if we go for single threaded integer only. i’d almost say you still have a choice if you’re gonna upgrade from an old platform to a more recent one between skylake and devil’s canyon even if we take the i5’s on board (i5 6600k is only a few points faster than i5 4690k at stock speeds) coupling that with ddr4 being slower (cl9 timings vs CL15 timings) skylake doesnt seem like the way to go to squeeze every last drop out of your system for bms. (yes yes i know ddr4 is newer, but newer is not better. ddr4 will beat out ddr3 at speeds above 3000mhz but you shell out more money for it as well)

I don’t know if my problem can be share with this one, but many time with this version and 4.33 I got many crashes. It appears not to be stable as it was 4.32 while settings and PC are alway the same.
I have 32 bit OS with W XP and unchecked many options in configuration file meanwhile the graphic configuration is there as the pic posted.
Any suggestions?Thanks
PS.
There was an other problem: during a fly I have got one dark black sky and I have tried to take a picture of it by pressing “stamp” from my keyboard, but none picture were taken. -

I am running bms 4.33.1 with i7 3770 and gtx 670. 64bit
All on exept shadows on smoke, vsync and triple buff. I run campaigns and never seen fps drop under 60 since update 1.
It is more then enough!Cheers

Hi all,
I’m having trouble with 4.33 U1 and low frame rate\juddering. My spec is below;
i5 4560K
8GB RAM
GTX660 2 GB
STD HDD
I was able to run 4.32 fine, never tried 4.33. I have lowered grass and trees to almost zero. Turned object quality and density (sliders above HDR) down to level 1. In the advanced section I turned off all Anisotropic filtering etc. Also turned off all HDR and canopy effects. Multi sampling is not enabled (quality 0).Screen resolution 1920 x 1080.
I’ve not changed any settings in the launch menu.
I’m running Win 10 64 bit, and Falcon 64bit.
Even with the settings above it runs poor and the textures are awful, I used to run 4.32 with the high resolution runway pack add on and it worked fine.
I have latest drivers for video card and I’m not running any other programs.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

if you mean the configuration window then it’s there where you can make the biggest impact on FPS. nvidia cards never ran as well as ATI cards and it appears that gap is still there for bms.
try messing with those settings. also check your background appsafaik trees and grass do not affect fps (maybe 1 or 2 fps at most) but i’m running an old ATI card so it might be different for nvidia but i doubt it

Black sky is because you don’t have enough memory… Are u sure that you have 6GB seen by the OS?
4.33.1 will use usually more RAM than 4.32, so it makes sense that you can run 4.32 OK.Is it happening to you in Campaign only (And only after some time flying)? or is it also in an empty TE?

i upgrade to 6 gb ram … 64 bit … and still the sameIs it a laptop ?
And to get to 6 gig you added 2x 1 gig sticks ?
Is the existing Ram in dual channel configuration & is it a matched pair ?
And what is 64 bit, the ram or a instance of Falcon ?
Or the OS ? You used the term “upgrade”.

I’ve noticed a curious thing after trying to get the frame rate issue sorted. I don’t use PC every day and noticed on initial boot performance was poor, so I restarted the PC (Win10) and it ran much better. Also disabled ‘triple buffer’ in config menu (2gb video card @ 1920x1080). I then disabled ‘fast boot’ and hibernate options in OS as Win10 never really shuts down otherwise. This helps fully flush the system memory and appears at least to give me a more reliable and playable gaming experience.
I have turned on all options in the Graphics \Advanced section in UI except Anti Alias as per BMS manual recommendation & all seems OK.
Just posting this in case other Win10 users may benefit from info.

have you by any chance turned on “Hi res textures”?
Are U saying there’s a problem with using hi res textures?
I’m asking 'cause I play(ed) BMS 4.32 and now of course switching to 4.33 as these two are parallel installs so one can run both versions on the same platform.
I noticed that BMS 4.33 has hi-tiles or similar terrain texture included with stock Korea theater. These, at least for me seem to be a major FPS killer 'cause playing BMS 4.33 TEs deducts my average FPS count by double from playing the same TE in 4.32.
Any Ideas?

I found my answer by reading latter posts so please disregard above mentioned.
Cheers!

Go to configuration section in the BMS launcher and play with Hardware settings. These settings help the most when it comes to stutter or low FPS.
I found out that messing with in game setup graphic settings and advanced settings make no major difference with FPS and gameplay flow as i see no FRAPS benchmark diff if Objects and trees density and detail are maxed out or reduced tatally to 1.
But reducing clouds from *1024 (*2048) to *512 and reducing water mapping (cloud and object reflections in ocean) sure help a lot.
The other thing is a platform construction, I always believed that desktop rigs are far better option for gaming than laptops. You can always play around with different hardware, bigger GPU and CPU coolers etc but ATM I’m cursed with an old (7-8 YO) ACER laptop with nVidia GT 9600 GPU and core2duo 2,53GHZ CPU which can play other games OK but it really proves me right with BMS 4.33U1 as my FPS get stuck to 11 in 3D cockpit view. For benchmarking I use Navigation TE which means I’m the only active 3D object in KTO.
Time for an upgrade.

Hi res textures do not affect performance. HOWEVRE, they suck up a lot of memory. so if you are running 32bit, or running 64 bit on a machine with less then 8gb RAM, I would recommend you leave that option off. in most cases, you will not notice any difference.
