Hotas Clugar Gimbal Grease to be used??
-
Hey All,
I recently had an issue with my Cougar Gimbals. the wear got so bad on my Gimbals I could barely turn left… well when I took it apoart I seen the wear on the gimbals and it was pretty severe…
I had put in some new center gimbals piece and modified the gimbal for roll bank… Now I diud a search to look and see which kind of Grease I should put in there and I seen all kinds of suggestions from lithium based grease to dry grease…
I ended up using some Vaseline and wondered if anything will that be good enough. I don’t want to have it wear like it did this last time… I did have some leftovers from the Original Uber mod and used those parts. so I believe the wear will be minimal as the center piece is sleeved with Brass and the roll gimbal has that piece of aluminum on top and that is aircraft grade aluminum…
So should I use a lithium based axle grease or what does the experts say??

I would go with white lithium grease. Both will probably do the job but lithium is thinner and doesn’t “glob up” as much.
Lubriplate #105 engine assembly grease would be my first choice.

I believe any grease u would put on a bicycle chain is OK.

I use pig fat on my bicycle chain, so it should be OK for my Wart Hog ??
My only problem is the pigs hind legs get caught in the spokes

I tried bicycle chain lube once… but if were gonna lube up our sticks I suggest KY or Vaseline.
No “Globbing”, low viscosity and easy to apply.
Pig fat is the “control” in this experimental study and discussion.
-
But how does it mix with body fluids, no “Globbing” ?
My hands get sweaty.
:woohoo:

Surely a water based lube like KY would dry out. Bike chain lube has advanced since my day and now probably silicon based but I think any lube with lots of volatile solvent should be avoided where any plastics are concerned unless specifically plastic safe. That being said cougar mostly metal.
I would use white grease. Tub type to avoid excess solvents you get with aerosol type. -
White grease seems to be the manufacturers choice as well. Took my Saitek rudder pedals apart, white grease. Took my Cougar apart and replaced it with white grease. Took my friends Warthog Hotas apart, applied white grease ( but he doesn’t know this happened )

You idiot, that was cheap thermal compound, I wondered why the tube was empty.
At least the stick stays cool.

The stick stays cool because the cheap thermal compound is transmitting the heat to your hands, making them sweaty
At least I hope that’s why your hands are sweaty
