Duplicating existing aircraft?
-
I’m working on a skin for the strike fighter variant of the Swedish Viggen. Then I realized that rather than just flying around in the strike fighter skin, it would be awesome to actually fly some strike missions.
But I also realized that im a total beginner at these things (skinning aside). So, I guess the easiest way would be to simply (?) duplicate the existing aircraft and make it into an aircraft of it’s own, the AJ37, and then add other loadout options for it. I was thinking that adding Mk 82, AGM-65, removing Skyflash and AIM-120, and maybe adding rockets would decently replicate the loadout options irl.
Is this the right way to go? And are there any guides around here somewhere that I can read? I don’t know how to do any of this.
I know there’s probably already one or several threads with similar questions, but I’m simply so new to this that I don’t even know what to search for (I’ve tried and failed).Anyone care to help out?

If you want to add weapons, you can use the BMS Editor, which you can access before you enter the game

If you want to add weapons, you can use the F4 Browser, which you can access before you enter the game
BMS editor, not F4Browse
Adding aircrafts isnt a small task in the DB. I’m not a specialist, so other DB gurus, feel free to correct me
- create CT record and linking to the correct 3D model in 3DDB. If the skin is different, you’ll propably need a new LOD with a different texture as well.
- some stuff in the aircraft-specific db, among which linking to a new ACDATA .dat.
- creation of new hardpoint definition and adding them to the aircraft weapons instead of the JA-37 hardpoints.
- maybe some stuff in bmsrack to properly define racks for munitions - again, not a specialist here.
Still up for it ?

Haha well….I’m no stranger to learning new things, as long as there is a comprehensive guide to help me on the way.
But it sounds a bit like i’ll have to settle with just the skin. at least for starters.
Thanks! -
On youtube you can find a perfect movie about this subject: I’ am able to copy weapons and change them in something else: problem with aircraft is that you want them to show up in campaign or mission planner. For me is that the biggest problem.

With F4B + some only 10 min about to recycle a garbage AC in DB and use for better purpose (for ex. F-105 or MB-339). You simply have to copy stats of AC change HP and sq. and link the FM dat file to the DB entry to make it work and of course you can rename by small text edit in a certain file. I have done it many times in my mod. You do not have to add anyting new as long as you have tons of non useful stuff in DB.

But then in multiplayer the others would have to have identical DB’s to be able to play with each other, right?

Here is a shot of how it’s coming along by the way, if anyone is curious.
Getting the splinter camouflage right is extremely time consuming. -
It looks interesting and promising at the same time.
Nice job until now, patience and time will help for sure.
With best wishes and regards,

there is already database entry “AJ-37 Viggen*” CT record “2397” with 3D model and green camouflage texture (you can check it in Tacref - 1st, opening AC)…you only need to add HPs via F4Browse and add this aircraft to teplanes.lst file

I see.
Is it the same FM as the JA37? And will the 3d cockpit have to be added? -
I added the following line to the teplanes.lst file:
// AJS-37 Viggen
1 2 17 3 21343 577 10093these are the figures from an early test install in 4.32 to fly the AJS37 (where it does fly). Now I get the message: ‘Error, wrong theater’ in the ‘add flight’ screen in TE. Is one of the numbers wrong?

Ram22 has helped me in the past to get the Viggens flying in a testversion of 4.32 on my rig. The current possible realistic loadout in BMS would be AGM-65A and Mk81 LDGP (4 pylons of 4 bombs) and rockets, but no modern weapons like BK-90 or RBS-15 (not present in the BMS database). A2A: AIM-9J or M for self defence.
