IR Intercept Training Mission bugged (player flies Transall)
-
Hi,
unless I’m seriously doing sth wrong, I think the IR intercept training is bugged. The player is assigned an aircraft that is apparently a Transall type turboprop.
After selecting 1X at the time field in the top right of the briefing screen and then clicking “commit” the mission begins as expected.
The cockpit shown is of course an F-16 ,even if you like around from the inside. But the sound is a turboprop, which actually changes in pitch when you move the throttle.
Also the aircraft is super slow and sluggy, flying like a turboprop transport. This bug was already present in 4.34, hadnt gotten around to report it yet.
If I m doing something wrong the briefing screen , pls let me know.
Kind reards,
WVRtac

Are you sure you have selected the right flight (AI -> the second, F-16) rather than
staying in the first flight once entering the TE (Training C-160)?
Some training TEs require you to switch flights. The “select 1x” needs to be reviewed though.
RD will read this I guess and knows what to do. -
I noticed the same problem in 4.34- but you just have to choose the correct flight and jet from available flights. I think the inclement weather ILS also needs its clock started before you can commit…

Training Manual, pg.6
The mission may be single ship or multiple ship and include other flights that are not F-16s. Your pilot will automatically take the first seat available, the flight lead’s position, but you can take any seat according to the mission setup. Choose the F-16 flight. The missions will start with a stopped clock. As most of the training missions start in the air, that will leave you plenty of time for flight planning. When you are ready simply resume the clock on the top right corner and click the TAKEOFF button on the bottom right of the UI to launch to 3D.

Selecting the rignt flight is always a good idea
OTOH resuming the clock before being able to click the TAKEOFF button is clearly not intended.RD: TRs concerned are:
- 09-Failures
- 17-IR Intercept
- 18-Barcap
- 19-Guns
- 20-Harpoon
- 22-Osan_Taegu

on the contrary Marco,
It started unintended in 4.34 but in the end, it helps the purpose and prevents ppl to spend too much time in the UI with their aircraft going further into the flight.
As stevie pointed out, it’s explained in the manual. Ppl will just have to make do accordingly -
Is the intention that you actually have to interact with the 1x time dropdown, before clicking Takeoff? I notice on TR#6 (ILS Weather) the takeoff button doesn’t respond, unless/until I click the time dropdown off of ‘stop’.
(This was same in 4.34, I recall)
It’s not a huge annoyance but the first time I encountered it, it was not immediately clear to me why the Takeoff button was no worky

the intention is that ppl using the training mission refers to the training manual
Putting attention to the clock is also part of the training the mission provide. In a TE MP, managing the clock is mandatory. So as I said, it started as a bug, but that thing actually ended up in something not too bad and with a didactic value.
After all, all it costs you is one click and doing so many realise there is a clock to manage. maybe not you, but others might. So I am aware of it and I decided to leave it at that.

In a TE MP, managing the clock is mandatory.Fair point – if TR#6 is the first TE with a stopped clock and unresponsive takeoff button, maybe add a special blurb in the docs for TR#6 to call that out. It would save folks a couple minutes of frustration and confusion.
ILS landings in zero visibility offers enough frustration and confusion!
Damn that new airport modelling looks so great though… even in near zero visibility.

The nature of this issue is unstable. And it may very well be that in the next revision, TRN 04 is the first one with the problem.
Therefore, I decided to make that note in the relevant paragraph in the beginning of the training manual and valid for all missions. -

Fwiw huge appreciation for all you do … the docs and training mission walkthroughs really are very well written, and thorough – one hardly needs to crack open the dash-1 or dash-34 except for reference!
