Installation Problem
-
The most obvious thing to check is that you have an original copy of Falcon 4 installed. You MUST have the original game installed for BMS to work as a part of the agreement between BMS and Tommo.
-
I have the original Falcon 4 installed and even have the disk in the drive. It is not the Allied Force edition. I have managed to install 4.32 and 4.33 with it.
-
OldFalcon I had the same problem with BMS 4.33 U1, the answer for me was to delete The original Falcon 4 install and then just re-install it, a fresh install and then installing BMS 4.33 U1 ran easy no problems same with BMS 4.33 U2. I think I read somewhere a fresh install of Falcon 4 was required or just recommended but not sure about that, but a fresh install worked for me.

WeakLink - I think your name is a misnomer because you solved the problem. Thank you!!! I was about to reinstall the operating system thinking that is the way to fix setup.xxx is missing problems. I have not actually run it yet but it installed.

OldFalcon us old farts have to stick together, enjoy
-
Yeap old farts rule. Best club in da hause.

Especially because for flying in the sim we don’t have to undergo compulsory, meticulous med check…

Nice to know I am not the only old pilot around although old is a relative term. Perhaps I should have named myself AncientFalcon considering I feel like I was brought up in the horse and buggy days whenever I have to use the computer. Anyway I got U1 working and even managed to download the Israeli theater which was quite enlightening. I had no idea the Israelis were so prolific with weapons development for their fighters. I tried to download and install U2 and got as far as a pop up screen titled Falcon BMS 4.33 Update 2 Setup which states: Completed! Running the BMS Setup Program now… So far it has sat their for about 45 minutes with no change. Did I miss something?

OldFalcon not sure I understand what U mean? (running the BMS setup program??) Do U mean you clicked the icon on the desktop marked Falcon BMS update 1 and you are looking at same screen as desktop? To access BMS the game you must click on the desk icon which will display a Tommo flash screen then a BMS flash screen inside the game.

WeakLink-Sorry to take so long to respond. I thought I would try once again to install U2 after reinstalling the Original Falcon 4 per your original suggestion. No luck this time. Got the same result. As to your last comment I may be more lost than I realized. I am trying to install BMS U2 and I have not done anything with icons on the desktop. I managed to download the Falcon_4.33_BMS_U2_Incremental.Torrent file from which I created the Falcon_4.33_BMS_U2_Incremental application. I moved this to where the Falcon_4.33_BMS_U1_Setup file was and ran it. Does any of this make sense? Perhaps I need to backup and start from scratch. I thought someone may have seen the message “Completed! Running the BMS Setup Program now…” My installation stopped at this point with no error message. Apparently I am pointing to the wrong setup file. The instructions said something about a setup file with a blue icon. The icon I saw on the setup file had a little blue in it but I could not find a setup file with a “blue” icon.
In addition to the problem installing U2, I seem to be unable to load the TGP in the Loadout screen for the U1 application for the Israeli theater for the campaign only. It is there for the instant action and for the Korean theater in U1. For the U1, Israeli campaign the loadout screen-Even if I go immediately into the loadout screen, TGP is listed at the top of the ordinance window but there is no check box. Thanks for any suggestions you may have. I am not expecting miracles. It is amazing how a novice computer user like me can go off on an obscure tangent.

You don’t need to move the “Falcon_4.33_BMS_U2_Incremental application” anywhere from its download location. You just need to run it and point it to the setup folder where you have the base 4.33U1 install setup sitting. If done correctly, the setup folder should look like this after running the Falcon_4.33_BMS_U2_Incremental application. Note the BMS setup folder structure of the following example image.
The blue-colored setup file means the Setup executable. This executable remains the same for all BMS updates: the Update 2 you downloaded actually updates the contents of the “data” folder, as shown by the previous image. The blue Setup executable is sitting in the parent folder of the actual setup files. Again, note the folder structure of the following example image.
Finally, I would recommend to install the base BMS install first (4.33U1 + U2). Then, you may install additional theaters, such as Israel 1.0.2, which is the upgraded version for 4.33U2.
In addition to the problem installing U2, I seem to be unable to load the TGP in the Loadout screen for the U1 application for the Israeli theater for the campaign only. You got it right, as all F-16’s do not have TGP available in the Israel theater. I don’t remember which versions exactly, but the earlier F-16 versions should lack the TGP.

Johku - Good News! You gave me just enough information to get it done. My setup file was in a zip file and had a different icon until it was extracted.
To anyone who might be reading - My next question is which torrent file do I start with to download the Balkans Theater? I noticed some updates to this theater and was not sure with which file to start.
-
Excellent!
To your next question: Balkans is not distributed by torrent. Its small updates of the past were made obsolete, and only the full installer is distributed now in order to keep it all simple. You may download the installer through a direct link given in the opening post of the release thread:
https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?23469-Balkans-Theater-of-Operation-for-BMS-4-33-U2 ← look for the “Theater Download” section.

You came through for me again. Many Thanks!!!
