Repairing Registry
-
Hi,
is there a way to add the needed registry entrys without reinstalling everything.
I had to Reset my Windows installation. For that reason i still have the installation folder but obviously there are no registry entrys.
For that reason if i try to start BMS i get the error message about missing Registry Keys.I tried to run the Setup but i get the error message that i cant install into the same directory as Falcon 4.0.
The selected Directory is the BMS Directory….Any hopes for repairing that?
Dont want to go through the Setup Nightmare again… -
the setup isn’t a nightmare?
Why is it to you?Tbh; i feel it’s quicker and simplier to reinstall than to mess with the registry, so my advise is to try to understand better how the setup is supposed to work and go for that instead

Hi Rampage, I can give you my registry-entrys if you want to
-
you should be able to manually restore the registry
from a cursory glance my falcon BMS 4.33 U1 registry is at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WoW6432Node\Benchmark Sims\Falcon BMS 4.33 U1
the keys inside are (in order)
name: (Default) type: REG_SZ data: (value not set)
name: baseDir type: REG_SZ data: install directory
name: curTheater type: REG_SZ data: Korea KTO
name: PilotCallsign type: REG_SZ data: bunch of hex numbers
name: PilotName type: REG_SZ data: bunch of hex numbersif you just create these and set the values correctly it should be fine(?)

Are you sure you can?
wouldn’t that be a breach of our agreement with Tommo and therefore induce a direct perma ban on both of you ?
think ppl, think

It really is? He has the original F4 and the correct BMS version. But if it is illegal, I wouldnt to that. Simply didn’t know about that, as he’s really having the offical installation already, just without the registry-entries

Its not illegal. The Forum moderation may choose to make it against the rules. It is not however in breach of copyright law.

Well the Setup for reinstalling BMS is not a nightmare.
The Setup to bring back all the Axis and Monitor Setups… Thats i want to avoid.
Also Skin Installation, Theaters…As Korbi said, copyright wise everything is fine.
I even dont want to fake a Falcon 4.0 installation just want to repair the registry that BMS can find that installation again. -
upon clarification from the team, i was overly cautious. I was wrong and apologize
Sorry Korbi -

i understand, but a quick backup of your config folder is avoiding that issue.
I always save the axismapping, devicesorting, calibration and display extractor files from one install to another. Actually what i do is to backup always the whole config folder and port only the files i need (avoiding the ones you can’t port from one version to another (bms config, …) but anyway if it’s the same version because you had a computer issue, then you can always port the whole config folder. The Setup to bring back all the Axis and Monitor Setups… Thats i want to avoid.
Also Skin Installation, Theaters…again, backup files before and restore files after the clean install. It works.
Of course if you reinstall because you have messed with lodeditor and you screwed up, then this can’t be done fully and you’ll need to compartimentalize the restore.Terrain is easy as they have their own folder (just think about restoring the theater.lst too)
skins is a bit more complicated i agree. I use a special naming convention that allows me to find back all the modified skins

Sorry KorbiNo problem RD
The better is to be quicker one time, instead of being to slow another. -
Red Dog you gave me another idea, i reinstalled BMS into another folder and then simply changed the registry that the baseDir now points to my old directory
Everything fine now.
Thanks to all of you
