Anyway, to our subject.
After seeing this video and seeing many pictures as reference (also looking preety close my 3 f-4s i have home 1/32, 1/48, 1/48I edited/changed a bit the lef dofs. and the outcome is this:
I might lower a bit the center of the dof of the inboard slats as it seems too high i think. If you see closely the video the outboard slats ar not moving forward but they remain in the same position and rotating. only the back of them is moving up so i come up with the pics you see. As for the full rigged wheels im still waiting i can try later tonight maybe i do something but i cant promise anything

You might want to check that mapping error I see on the last picture. Right 2nd half from that red line, above the engine. I see those screws and lines take a weird move to the right/back. There is also a small texture issue with the right aileron and spoiler.

I miss something i guess. I’ve seen how u dofed yours but still even when i did the same didnt worked as it should. Right now in the overall progress Its the only thing missing is that, i managed to dof the main parts only,another one missing is the actuators of the Speedbrakes witch i think is kind of more easy and im very close to complete them cause they dont have too much moving parts i guess. Even that i tried to make the same sequence of dofs in the actuators of the undercarriage with no luck (of course different dofs)…

I don’t think I’m a real help here if you work in 3dsMax and export the model as a LOD ready to be imported in the sim. I tweak the dofs in LE so they move like they should. An amateuristic way, I know, but I also never managed to get anything useful from that scene modifier and the manual was just a few lines of text and no real help. So I run with the things that work. Remember moving parts are ordered in serial and you start with the last part / farthest away from the plane.
This is how I did it for my F-4 main gear:
- Select wheel, add dof via modifier list. Place and rotate dof so the rotation is correct. Ox (x=dof, other letters resemble the parts)
- Then select the doffed wheel and the parts where the wheel is attached too. Add a dof and make the spot where the scissor hinge will be the rotation point for the new dof. Ox-x
- Next; select the wheel, the part the wheel attaches to and the lower scissor. Add another dof and place it where the upper scissor well attach to the lower scissor. Ox-x\x
- Select the wheel, the part the wheel attaches to, the lower scissor and the upper scissor. Add a dof to the point where the upper scissor will attach to the gear main rod. Ox-x\x/x
- Select the wheel, the part the wheel attaches to, the lower scissor, upper scissor and the gear main rod. Add a dof where the upper part of the rod is attached to the wheel well. Ox-x\x/x–|x
You end up with the wheel having 5 dofs in series. Keep in mind the rotation arrows of the dof and the way it will move. I hope it throws some more light on this (very unpopular to me) part of modeling. You might want to check the Mirage 2000 gear dofs for some good xdof values and it will give you a good idea of the movement too.

I am sorry Manos, but I am not a modeler. I was just wondering if you could load an existing model so you could learn how to reverse engineer the dofs. I am keeping my fingers crossed for this project. Good Luck!!!

Well as i said in a previous answer. I have allready main parts ok but not 100% as i want. Im not cutting hope yet as is the model stands really fine for others i mean but im a maximalist thats why im still looking the details and thats why i want the 100%. And of course i have allready a tester witch feeding me with feedback and corections thats why it takes a while to be released. When every issue or glitch will vanished it will be released.

Great progress man!! Seeing all this hard work and how you’re fiddling for bits and pieces of info on DOFs and what not gives me a slight scare of what’s ahead for my F-14. At least you started from a completed model, then again having built my own maybe gives me a headstart when it comes to rigging it. That being said I positively have no clue about anything you’re doing here in terms of DOFs, LEFs and all the other stuff.
Thanks for sharing your progress in such detail and posting each step, sure this will help me and others down the road.

Well u have right i started with an almost ready model. But now only the base is the same. Lol. I edited and changed a lot of stuff to end up like this. Actually only 30-40% of the actuall model stayed intact as it was. Thanks for your kind words. If it wasnt help of the community i wouldnt do anything af all theese. I will thank all of the people who gave me their knowledge of all this. 10000000000+ times THANKS A LOT

Wheels are done. Just moving things here and there and correcting errors and Terminator 2020 works initiated
the polycount as u see in OGGLOD is too high i make a mistake duplicating the whole fuselage -
Playing around with my test skin and Photoshop. I might learn some things… heh… I added some good textures in the nozzle pedals,gears,the end of the intakes,new texture in the afterburner ring. And added a metallic feeling (pipe picture lol) to the moving parts of the gears. The last one doesnt give me what i want the other though do!
By the way I think the greek version is ready i finishing up the Turkish later today. Do final adjustments and moving to the others. Until at least the skin is ready. we have sometime. Also will export Lod 2-3 (High Poly) and try to make a low poly also for those with weaker PCs/Laptops. Its the most difficult i think without loosing details… Maybe the lowpoly the cokpit is flat or whith less details (20k+ tris in there…) Sorry but something has to be slaughtered to get low poly also in good detail in general.

Question: I see a deployed slat on the front edge of the main wing, a deployed auxiliary flap and something that looks like a slat on the horizontal stabilizer. How did you rig these? Do they function in tandem with the landing gear or all seperately? Manual or automatic?
Just asking cuz I’ll have to deal with that when it comes to the wing spoilers on the F-14. I somehow have to emulate the system functionality of spoilers, flaps, aux flaps, slats and air brake cuz they all work in tandem depending on airspeed, AOA and wing sweep.

LEFs… Leading Edge Flaps. If u use the exporter in the dofs u can use in each part u can find them And yes they are seperately riged. Inward Lefs are moving a bit forward and little up the Outboard rotating abit towards front. Each one has its own dof. They “conected” in the dat file with the Flaps. Meaning when u deploying flaps they do to. (actually in the real aircraft i think u could deploy them seperately but im not sure if u can do it in falcon). Can remember exactly the year all -E started to adapt the “Slatted” stabilizers. They had a little boost in maneuvering (also when the Slatted LEFs installed till then they had normal lefs (no seperation from the main wing) but they had a minous also in instantly too many G’s the drag was to big and they where bleeding speed very fast and they stalling easier than before. The slat in the stabilizer doesnt move it just helps the airflow like this. As it told u the rig is 1 dof for each lef (with the inboard one another 3(!) for the actuators beneath) 1 for the main flaps u see in the photo deployed, 1 for the Ailerons (next to the flap) and 1 for the Spoilers just forward from the Ailerons. The whole model (each nozzle pedal has its own dof) has around 192 dofs! Yes you read well but i wanted to be as close to the real thing in moving parts.
Edit:As i remember and see on my 1/48 F_14D The LEFs the f14 has is all the way in the wing correct? and as i see the Flaps too… Lefs moving forward and downwards a little and the flaps Backwards and down… They are Fowler type flaps right? You can see videos i think how they work or search in google you can easily find the dofs you want. Probably T-dof (Translation with the arrow of the dof showing the direction of the deployment of LEF or TEF (flaps) and looking a bit down also so they will move forward and down as they suppose to do. All major comercial jets have them so its easy to find photos and videos on how they work and when u will start to dof them you will see its quite easy actually when u have the general idea how you want them to move.

Yes, the F-14 control surfaces are all on the wing. Slat (LEF), both flaps and spoilers plus the entire wing which is a DOF itself I guess. If I understand correctly I can even rig the eyebrow and cove door which are two additional surfaces on the wing creating smooth surfaces when flaps are deployed for landing. As far as the functionality goes I know exactly how it all moves and is actuated in RL so I just have to ‘translate it to DOFs’ and you’re right, it is one rotational and one translation DOF for the flaps as they move back and down, same for the slat. Spoilers and doors only have one rotation plus the actuators.
Looking forward to your P H A N T O M. And interesting comment re the fixed slat in the stabilizer - never noticed that before.
