Tower Frequency problem.
-
Hello Forum.
I’m encountering a problem with tower frequencies, something I have not seen before.
I’ve created a nighttime navigation exercise, tracking radials, IAFs and ILS from Kunsan (292.3) to Choongwon (230.15). I have flown it frequently with no problem.
However, now, when after take off from Kunsan I contact Choongwon tower requesting QNH, I hear a response from Chongju (250.2).Why is this happening?
The radial track and ILS approach all work fine.
I did accidentally, a few days ago, press “Reset” in the “Comm” section of the “Setup” screen. Could this be the cause?
Any thoughts gratefully received.
Thanks.
Bayonet.

soundfrag issue
you’re on the right frequency but choongwon has the chongju soundfrag, or something which is very similarin original falcon 4, chongju was actually Cheongju and choongwon was jhunju
the soundfrags are still originals i believe and we hardly can hear the difference between one and the otherThe soundfrags should be updated at some point, but we wait till we have many more to update to solve all these issues in one go

not is you use the correct frequency as you explained above and not a preset

Interesting thread as I’ve noticed that too - I always wondered why that ATC said the wrong name.
On a related issue - do people check in to local weather stations/ATC to get QNH updates or would one use a low average theatre wide? Is that what the force QNH is for?

yes
just like we use a regional qnh in general aviation.Beside, i doubt that in indian country you would get QNH from the ennemy ATC

Thank you both for the very prompt replies.
Red Dog, a further question, if I may.On the Comms screen in Setup, in the Kunsan Choongwon scenario I describe above, Preset #15 is Kunsan but it shows the UHF frequency as 365.000. Why is that, as Kunsan is 292.3 ?
And finally, I don’t quite understand what you mean when you say “and not a preset” in your first answer above.
Many thanks!

before or after you clicked the set tower?
if your dtc file has assigned 315.00 to preset 15 you will see displayed 315.00 on the dtc tab until you click on set tower. As this flight origin from Kunsan, 315.00 will then be replaced by 292.3
And finally, I don’t quite understand what you mean when you say “and not a preset” in your first answer above.
a preset is a variable
Preset 15 can be programmed as any frequency (usually a tower frequency through the set tower button)
as it is variable, it can change according to DTC settings, hence why it can’t be reliable when trying to pinpoint frequency issues.
So in these matters, to be all on the same wavelenght, it’s best to talk about the real tower frequency and discard the preset (15 in this case) -

You don’t know if you don’t ask

Sometimes the answers is so simple it’s overlooked
Now, I’m interested to know how the force QNH value is generated. I’m going to guess lowest know local pressure, minus a percentage for saftey.

I’d say the same yes, lowest of the known QNH in the vincinity

Channel 6 yes but Kunsan Tower is frequency 292.3 -
hi jetlag yep see that… …presets will load …but not working when the radio is selected to power on…the
screen numbers lite up but when i change it …to channel 4 0r 5 nothing changes still reads 000.000
Or my be its setup that way and it won’t visually…only in background… but even then on presets i can’t respond to
keyed commands like the tower ect… i might need to set comm 1 and 2 …
let me start from here:for the A-10c
in cockpit; turn on batt.
turn on main power…
then i turn vhf uhf volume knobs up
turn on the radio mode to main or both.(channel sector defaults to 6 and 000.00 displayed) .
comms 1 and 2 default to op mode…
ok well i should hear the tower right .? -

HI yep found it….had to get dta powered up then program in the right channel and freq assigned…in dct.
but whats funny the freq stays at 000.00 …no functions assigned to change in flight or at ramp start…
but thats kool it works…
