Pre-planned CAS mission failure
-
I’m relatively new to BMS and have been working my way through the training and just started my first campaign. I ran into problems with Pre-Planned Close Air Support missions. It seems no matter how much of the enemy force I kill, I always fail the mission. I’m sure I’m hitting the right target (One was a lone Engineer Battalion with know one else around) and on two occasions I destroyed the entire battalion. Do I need to contact AWACS first before attacking? Am I just using the wrong mission type when I create the package? Any help would be great. Its really frustrating to read mission failed on the debriefing.
Also how do you create an interdiction mission? It doesn’t appear as an option in the package creation menu.

Do not give too much credits to Be-briefing page and results in Falcon4.

If you want to be given credits, interdiction is your solution, indeed. It’s listed as “AI” in the flight tasks. Just hit any foe within the perimeter.

Also make sure to untick the “Set by HQ” checkbox for your SQN, for only then you’ll be able to task your own missions of type “AI”.
All the best, Uwe

Thanks for the help. I tried a few interdiction missions and those seemed to work just fine.

Dee-Jay is totally right. Missions can be a success even though it’s listed as unsuccessful as a lot of it is dependent on timing or crossing a steer point, when say the battle battle requires you not necessary fly the route. And missions which show successful in the UI could have very well been a dismal failure in execution and tactical employment. So long story short, define the mission objective yourself and determine if you met that objective using the debriefing in UI as a guide.

If I remember correctly, call AWACS and “Check In,” AWACS should then give you bullseye for the targeting info. Also be sure to recon the unit your are supposed to be attacking to give you an idea of how to visually ID the correct targets (are they t-80 tanks or some other vehicles…visually verify your intended targets with the TGP and reference them to what you looked at in the Recon screen).

From my experience over the years, the most detrimental failures in the campaign are 1…Dying, 2…losing airframes. Receiving a failure on a CAS, CAP, or OCA because you didn’t stay within time constraints or strayed too far from the target is usually outgunned by the 2 Migs you killed or the half dozen vehicles you pulverized. 2cents…
