Norway Theater - Lets do it!

Update:
I just wanted to give everybody an update on our progress. Since Ranger and Starrats have joined me, progress on Norway has rapidly accelerated. The theatre’s release will no longer be a working Alpha bordering on Beta as I imagined when I first began working on it last year. Our latest internal version is much more complete than I ever imagined it could be. At the moment I could call it 95% complete toward a 1.0 release. The DB along with its new planes will give the the campaigns of the feel of a new theatre. The attrition type, force-on-force unit depletion campaign has been shelved. We have made really good progress towards two winnable, fast pacedm land grab campaigns with their unique campaign videos. In another thread, I mentioned that Kuriles was much further ahead of Norway when it was released. I can assure all of you folks, Norway has rapidly caught up.
Finally, I want to make a mention of this theatre and BMS modding in general. When I first built Korea 2012 in January of 2012, I was a very green in modding. Over the last couple of years, I worked with the Guam Development Team, Kurile Island Dev Group and now The Nordic Theatre Team. I want to say that all of the folks I have been involved with have been the most professional group of individuals I have worked with. We never have had any squabbling over credit, EULA or workload. Everybody gives their 100% because of their passion for Falcon 4.0. In the process, my learning and sense of accomplishment has been far greater than I could have ever imagined when Korea 2012 first came out exactly four years ago.

Thanks for a great news! You love and passion for Falcon 4.0 is greatly appreciated.

I just got Rangers new DB and must admit it is very, very Awseome! It will be developed even further (by Ranger only) after we try out what we have so far. I will try to get some screen shots before 1.0 released.

I just wanted to show a little of the major progress we have made in the 12 months. This is a picture of Save0.cam’s victory.
In this scenario, I simply let the BMS run at 32X in order to see how the ground units would react. As you can see, they were able to capture the Primary Objective on their own without player input. There is still more work to be done concerning finishing up the ground units, but as you can see the land grab is successful so far.
That brings me to my next point. I am really lucky to have a coworker at my place of employment who is a former Russian Army Helicopter Mechanic. He is very familiar with Russian Army tactics in the late 1990s. Using his knowledge, I am making the Russian Forces in Save0 act and behave like those of his experience. In Norway, unlike Korea, ground forces will move at a much faster speed by using tanks and mobile rocket artillery. Infantry units will reinforce captured units, but all the forward unit engagements will be done by armored units. This will make Close Air Support mission much more important in Norway. Air units will be needed in order to slow the onslaught of the Russian ‘Blitzkrieg’ style attack before the tanks advance too far into Sweden.

Nice.
Don’t forget to include some of the intrinsic factors that plague Russian/Soviet forces too - they look good on paper until you look at the details - some of that may not be suited for Falcon wargame simulation; morale, training, poor logistics, low reliability of equipment. A force looks pretty impressive until you go to war - then the reality hits in that less than half your vehicles work, your supply system doesn’t actually have enough fuel and ammo to fight more than 5 days of battle before things start shutting down, not to mention the other side is doing their best to interdict and compound the logistics problems.
I am really looking forward seeing the latest iteration of the campaign to see how you have it playing out.
Also, I think Starrats and I will need to postpone work on the airbase callouts - the tools don’t work on the current falcon.tlk file and bin files due to some code changes and formatting. More to follow.

Tony, some of the items you mention have been sort of incorporated by the type/make up of the Russian Ground units. Also, I took pains to make a big ‘firewall’ of units at the FLOT. Further behind, there are less effective (motor infantry) protecting key cities. NATO, on the other hand has a second, FLOT in Sweden that rapidly deploys to the front after Day 2’s fighting. This is group, combined with the main force then attack and conquer the Russia’s main force and dug in defenders. Of course, NATO control of the sky is key during the campaign’s movement.

Tacref is done mostly… some sub directories are not there but each unit has the main info linked to correct new plane. more Good news on Tonys db development keeps brightening my day. the db is still rough draft and being worked on. there are several better looking models than these, but the Swedish gripen and Norwegian f35 are two jets I am happy to have in the db.These screenshots reveal unfinished terrain tiles, most apparent is alpha channels not added to coast line. this just hasnt been done yet.

Here is some usefull info about cold war scenario’s:
-
Impressive stuff, guys!
Apologies if this has been addressed earlier, but are there any plans, or the possibility of plans, to use one of the .cam files for an 80’s scenario?

. Tonys db beta has what is needed but i dont think anyone is on that task right now. save2 is empty and with new db cold war will look nice. we have mentioned it before but right now savezero and save1 are mostly modern jets. save2 is open to possibles seventies also. the new jets list includes Finish mig21s Nordic f104s and more. Chuckles may have more definitive answer but i think cold war is going on save2 eventually.

Mike:
A Cold War scenario would be pretty easy to do. Once we get Save0 and Save1 working along with the correct units, a 1980’s Cold War Campaign could be done with a few edits using Mission Commander. There are lots and lots of possibilities after the 1.0 release is perfected.

hi guys.I wonder when Norway theater comes out. Best regards
-
As with many other projects, I don’t think you will have them tell an exact date. Just be patient…
Greetings

Soon

Looks like you guys might need some Finnish Hornet Skins?
-
there will be a lot of skin work needed in the near future. the Finish hornets we have C and D. look like bms USA hornets with new paint job and Finish emblems. the Finish mig 21 will need polished along with quite a few others. the f18s are looking good though. we gave USA C and D models to Finland in this db and the rest of the hornets are still USA Canada and Austrailia.

ok no worries, I did these ones up awhile ago.

Info on the Swedish dispersed base organisation. If it’s right that the usual airbases would only be used in peacetime, then it would make sense to create the dispersed bases as basic features in campaigns. http://www.x-plane.org/home/urf/aviation/text/bas/dispersed_basing.html
It would be nice to taxi out this way
-
This could be possible if we get a giant “building” shaped like a mountain its been talked about but we’re not there yet. Tony mentioned it a while back and I forgot who else it was on this. I think it would be awesome to taxi out a tunnel but also this giant mountain building might look nice in the background instead of stretched terrain.
