HOW TO INSTALL THE HOTAS COUGAR FIRMWARE / SOFTWARE ON WINDOWS 7, 64 BIT
-
Do you have the .pdf on the HS1 throttle modification? The filedropper.com site is not displaying the file.
-
The filedropper link is the same file that I am mirroring (linked in my post above). It doesnt have the HS1 info though.
-
Nope sorry, i have only the inffo the cougar setup
-
Using this method, I was able to install drivers and software on Windows 10 Pro (64-bit) …
-
“Windows 10/ 8/ 7 - No drivers are required for this device”
“This device is fully compliant with the “Human Interface Device” (HID) specifications. By simply connecting your device to the computer’s USB port, it will be installed automatically by Windows, ensuring you a perfect compatibility with any games and programs (such as T.A.R.G.E.T).”Is this true for W7/64?
-
For the Cougar? Not so for me, I had to install the Vista x64 drivers to get mine to work on W7.

Same for me. Windows Device Manager saw the data in and data out devices, but it was unable to install any drivers for it.

Hi All,
Just adding my two cents…
I’ve just installed Win 10 on a new build PC. Installed Saitek pedals and TrackIR ok. Also installed F4 and BMS (U2) no probs.
Then I got to the Cougar…tried using both 2004 and 2007 HCO drivers - no joy so far. I keep getting the ‘Device not detected’ issue. Done the .dll thing and made sure to keep the Cougar unplugged whilst installing. Still, only just started and there’s a whole bunch of other things to try so I’ll let you know if I get success.
I susect that the problem may lie with Windows installing its own drivers whenever I plug my Cougar into the USB. Perhaps they are overwriting the HCO ones? We will see…

It may help you more of you can see what USB drivers are being loaded when plugging/unplugging the HOTAS. Windows is rubbish for this even if you enable hidden device view in Control Panel.
Far better tool is USBDeview http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html
You can see exactly which USB drivers are active for each device plugged into your rig.
Knowing this you can delete relevant HOTAS USB drivers with it plugged in and keep it plugged in while intalling the most.recent hco drivers.
This prevents Windows from taking the decision as to which drivers are installed compared to the usual ‘uninstall/unplug/replug’ cycle.

Sweet. Thx.

Got it working. Followed Cubbie’s instructions. The only issue I had was that I had to unplug and plug back in the stick USB connector after everything was done. Other than that it was a pretty nominal install. Thx for the good advice.

I just purchased a super Mint hardly used HOTAS Cougar. Now I have the Warthog, along with my MFG Crosswinds so it’s not liek I really needed this. But I really enjoy the F16 models so much I wanted to collect this Cougar since it is harder to come by. I run Windows 10 so will this Win 7 work? Will this Cougar unit even run on Windows 10? I was just going to plug it in and see if it works and just program the controls through the Falcon game set up. “?”
Any advice? I just wanted something to match my F16 in a sense. -
Alrighty… after reading the dam message above I think I will answer my own question. ;p()
;p)

I just purchased a Cougar used in super Mint like new condition. We shall see…. Now I basically have everything here in 2017 being a super powerful PC, MFG Crosswinds, Da Warthog…etc…
Windows 10. I’m just gonna try and plug the Cougar in and see what happens. A 2.0 as opposed to a faster 3.0 eh?
I simply wanted the Cougar cause I enjoy the F16 lay out right? … I have downloaded but not installed the 2007 HCO Vista 64 bit if needed. And someone else also suggested the USB Deview program to select drivers for USB ports. But first I just want to plug this in and see how it does. I have a feeling there is gonna be conflict, but won’t know until I get there.
That makes pretty good sense though plugging it into a slower USB port. Man I forgot how old this Cougar is… Man… How old I am?!
;p() -
Hi Halgrym… I have down loaded the Deview and the HCO Vista 64 bit in case it is needed. Was the Dewiew tool easy to use? I have Windows 10 and a super fast machine. That one guy suggested plugging the Cougar into a 2.0 USB port as opposed to a faster USB 3.0. First thing I’m gonna do is just plug it in and see what happens next. I guess I didn’t really need to buy this considering what I have, but I am hoping I can get this super Mint Cougar working as I really enjoy the F16 lay out.
Too bad the Cougar throttle couldn’t have some kind of PIN adapter to plug in by itself. The sticks appear to be the same. I also noticed your question is just last month as much of the Cougar discussions seem to be from 2011 or 2012.
Any Advice? How is your Cougar still running now?
Thanx

So did you get it working for Windows 10 or not? I’m not clear if you have. I have an original Cougar I bought first hand in 2006! Can’t believe it’s damn 11 years old and has so little miles on it. But haven’t messed with it with Win 10 yet. I attempted but never followed through.

May I ask in case of windows 10 64bit and a cougar with old firmware, how do we update the firmware?
EDIT: Updater stays on the press trigger stage and waits there for ever.

I have Win10 64bit as well and I haven’t even got around getting Cougar working. I wonder if it will work at all
