What should I do when WPN Off comes up on WPN page?
-
I was following MISSION 13: AGM-65 MAVERICKS with freeze.
All of sudden WPN display comes up with WPN Off while TGP and AGM seeker alignment.
What is the meaning of WPN off in this situation?
I know I took long to finish alignment. Do you know why this happened?
What should I do to turn on WPN page and keep TGP and AGM-65D seeker alignment? -
The Mavericks have a 60 min time limit when on but without the cover off and 30 min after you uncage. So perhaps it took you more than 30 min and the missile shuts off automatically.

“with freeze” do you mean freeze the kind of game pause where the aircraft systems still run or freeze the FCR function?
“all of a sudden” when does this happen? how does it happen?
Please be more specific with what you did in what order at what times. There is no “turning on the WPN page.” When you give the AGM-65s power that is all there is to do. When the missile is powered and selected the WPN format should not say “WPN off.”
My half guess based on minimal information is that you started the mission, immediately engaged freeze pause, did some actions, un freeze paused the game at which point it went through the training mission script to set up the airplane for the mission which conflicted with your earlier inputs. That’s a complete guess. That or you turned on missile power on the SMS page and then turn it off again in another place thinking you were turning two separate systems on but instead you turned it on then off.

with freeze means what exactly you mentioned as game pause where the aircraft systems still run .
I just followed BMS-Training manual page 121 to page 123. I couldn’t see “C” above station 3,7. so kept changing master arm switch from sim to arm and arm to sim, in order to reset
based on "The quickest way to start fresh is to cancel all locks by switching master mode. and repeated this handoff process three times.
Well as you mentioned I kept freeze and unfreeze to search and read switch location and name and extra.
Yes, I turned on auto power on and power on to gyros can spin up. When I repeated this steps three times, “WPN off” displayed on WPN display.
Is that because I consumed all of Mavericks power? Does freeze status consume power? I didn’t know that. -

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I am sure I took more than 30 minutes.

Short answer, yes…in freeze, shift-P, the systems are still active. The power on the mav was exhausted, especially if you blew the lens covers… next thing you mentioned was switching the Master Arm… Master Mode is switching between AA and AG modes. Go to Dogfight mode then cancel that… it will cancel the locks in the TGP… next time you see WPN OFF, check the SMS page to see if the Mav power is on or not

Power is never exhausted from Mavericks. They are powered by a cable to the aircraft’s electrical system. They can overheat though. I don’t know if Mavericks auto-off or otherwise stop working due to reaching time limits in BMS. And yes, “freeze” pause isn’t really paused. It’s just like 1x but God’s hand is holding your airplane stationary in the sky. I’m not sure if fuel is consumed or not.
I’m not sure what cycling master arm would do with a Maverick. It kills the video which would kill the lock but it doesn’t fully reset the system. You want a master mode recycle (like the MRM/DGFT switch) for that. I’m guessing that cycling master arm wasn’t resetting the Mavericks into their pre-designate slaved mode and therefore the MBC commands from commanding TGP track weren’t doing anything as the Maverick is a strong independent lady who don’t need no man at that point.

Try deselect and then re-select of the weapon, which is essentially what you are doing by changing Master Mode and/or selecting DGFGT via HOTAS. Cycling Master Arm shouldn’t do anything…it’s a bug if it does; it shouldn’t kill the video. In fact, nothing should kill the video as long as the weapon is selected…and/or not timing in.

Not sure in RL, but see -34-1-1 page 145
