Falcon 4 Allied Forces
-
Hello,
I’m new to this community, and I’m a long time combat flight simulator aviator… been flying ever since F/A-18 Hornet (original), then, 2.0, then Korea. I’ve flown every flight sim I know of, excluding DCS World as my computer can’t run it.
I just have a thought, maybe something the developers can implement sometime in the near future for us Mac Gurus… BMS on Allied Forces for Mac OS X, as Windows takes up more recourses and has very little fan control. Every time I boot into my Windows 7 and start flying, I barely get the aircraft started before Windows goes to sleep to cool off the GPU, I don’t have that problem in Mac OS X. So, I think we should have our version too, so we can share in the excitement of combat. Just my two cents… If this sounds like a plausible idea, please let me know. I’m definitely interested in comments…
BTW, I run X-Plane X flawlessly on my Mac OS side, so I know it’s something with the Windows OS.
Thanks for reading this somewhat lengthy message.

I’m not sure I understand you…

So you can’t run BMS in Mac OS X? Or you can’t run Allied Force on Mac OS X? You do know BMS and Allied Force are two totally different things, right?
As for your suggestion, while it is plausible, I don’t think that’ll happen unless a community member takes up the torch or a BMS dev really, really, really wants to play on his Mac OS X. I think it’ll be easier for you to build a Windows-based PC for BMS instead…. at the very least, you’ll be playing BMS sooner rather than later.

Allied Force was actually released for Mac for a while,
but it died. But yeah as noted, BMS and AF are not the same thing.
It seems like a mac should have enough horsies to run BMS, but i’ve never tried it.

I have FAF for Mac OS X - got it from the Apple App Store while I could (and they still honor my downloading of it for new machines/installations), but I think if you buy the bundle from GoG you get both the PC and Mac versions.
If you have a Mac with enough horse power you can install Win 7 or 10 and native boot - I do that on an i7 Mac Mini and have BMS installed and running nicely there, however my graphics options are limited by not being able to use a real graphics card.
Apple is planning a new iMac Pro that would/will have way more than enough trickery to run BMS very well - but as with most Apple (Pro) hardware it’s probably going to be pricey. Still, as I’m in need of a new iMac I’ll probably buy one - something 6-8 core - and with a 2 TB SSD so I can partition and install Win. Personally I prefer to native boot and not use a VM like Parallels - things seem to just run more stable that way.

Hey how about that! It had stopped working for me for a while, but it seems good now.

BMS Installing onto Allied Force PC or Mac version:

Personally Ober before you even think about flying BMS’s build of Falcon 4.0 you first need to sort out your hardware problems which you seem to have.
If its overheating while flying any flight “sim” you need some basic maintenance.
1 clean the fluf and dust out.
2 Reseat with thermal compound the Heat Sink.
3 ……maybe replace a few fans.Good luck with that hot box.

It’s a known issue that when you rn Windows on certain Macs the fans don’t work. I had it with my 27" iMac when running Bootcamp too and fried some internals. Pretty expensive joke. That’s when I decided the extra cash could better be spent on a BMS dedicated Windows machine, which I did. Didn’t regret it one second up till now.
Do know, you can install manual fan control software on your Windows, so I did that for a while too, at least that enabled me to play BMS on my iMac before I saved enough for the game pc.And yes, F4 Allied Force is (or was) availabale for Mac, but it’s nothing compared to BMS.
So bottomline, for now install any freeware fan control for Windows via Bootcamp on Mac. And save up for a game pc

but I think if you buy the bundle from GoG you get both the PC and Mac versions.
Yes indeed!

I am currently running BMS on my Mac via my Windows 7 install, but really really hate windows. Lol. I’ve gotten rather good at the F/A-18C, and I’ve flown them on other simulators and are very familiar with their cockpit layout. I just built an epic strike mission involving 3 SEAD dedicated F/A-18Fs, my flight of C for CAP, and a flight of B2s for bombing. But, I’ve since learned the MFDs are problematic. When I load my Flight Plan using my Right MFD, it blanks both my MFDs and I have to configure them by hand. Then, using RWS radar, NOTHING shows up. My flight engages targets that I am not see… it’s rather annoying. But, carrier landings are a rush in this.

Two problems:
1: your mfds are blank after loading DTC because you haven’t programmed your DTC before the flight for whatever pages you want to show on each MFD in each mode (just like programming EWS(chaff/flare) programs beforehand.
2: You are searching at the wrong altitudes I bet you. Check with AWACS, or activate DLink to find out which altitude the targets are and adjust your radar scan elevation angle accordingly.Cheers!
