[Release] Tyrant's Virtual Mission Tools (VMT)
-
Interesting. It should be figuring out which theater to use based on the path to the TE or CAM file you’re opening selecting. Can you post the full path of one of the mission files you’ve tried? I would assume that it’s under “C:\Falcon BMS U1\Data\Add-On Balkans”, but given that you said “no matter which theater I chose” perhaps that’s not true.
Sorry you’re having trouble!
Here are three paths:
*C:\Falcon BMS U1\Data\Campaign\Save, C:\Falcon BMS U1\Data\Add-On Ostsee\Campaign, C:\Falcon BMS U1\Data\Add-On Istrael\Campaign*
Add-On Balkan currently not installed.
I’ve switched from Ostsee to Korea. At both theaters came the errormessage.Regards

Do you have the Balkans theater listed in your C:\Falcon BMS U1\Data\Terrdata\theaterdefinition\theater.lst file? I’m guessing what happened is it’s listed there even though it’s not installed and VMT is failing when the corresponding theater definition can’t be found.
You’re looking for a line in that file like this:
Add-On Balkans\Terrdata\theaterdefinition\Balkans.tdf
If it’s there, and you don’t have that theater installed, you should probably remove it. But VMT should also be more tolerant of problems like this one.
Let me know what you find: if that’s not it we’ll keep digging.

Figured out the flag bug: I was using the team number rather than the team flag number. Worked great in missions where team 1 happened to have flag 1, but obviously that’s not always the case.
Testing the fix now - should be able to ship it soonish.

New Release
Version: v047
64-bit download
32-bit downloadThis release fixes the issue with showing the wrong flags, and the errors that some people were seeing with an error message like “No item 3739 in vector of length 1666”.
Thanks to those who reported these bugs! I imagine we’ll find a few more, since it’s getting a lot more usage now, but that’s typical for the early days of a public release.
* Change Log ** v047 [2017-08-25 Fri] - Use correct flags for teams. - Fix errors loading related to objective names. - Error when reading the last string in the strings file. - Error when reading the objective name of a carrier objective. ** v045 - Initial public release

Feature request here!!!
Great tool bro!!
when maximizing the window to full screen, could you make more map area instead of 50% map window and 50% options?
the biggest option is the flight box, and there are some unused area on the right when 1920*1080 resolutionthanks

So, I thought about that: it’s the way it is intentionally, although I’m open to discussion. Basically, it gets as big as it can get without having any portion of the map off the screen. Since the map area is square (BMS maps are square), I can’t make it any wider without having some of the map area outside the visible part of the screen. Having any of the map off-screen would mean that we’d need a mechanism to scroll in addition to a mechanism to pan the map view. Not impossible to do, of course, but I thought it would lead to a more confusing user interface.
Hopefully that made any sort of sense.
I suppose I could set it up so that the map just gets rectangular instead of having an off-screen area, and require people to pan, or allow the map not to fill the entire viewing area when zoomed out all the way. I’m not sure whether I like that more or not, but again, I’d be interested in hearing opinions.
Thanks for the feedback!

I made a ten-minute intro video:
-
No sir. No Balkan in the List. But…I started your Tool on my older PC and…
it works… I don’t know why… I think my flight-pc is a little bit weird:blowpar: -
Maybe it’s mentioned here before but couldn’t really find it when browsing through the replies, but I tried loading several Balkans 3.5 TE’s and they all stop at “loading objectives”. I get a red cross instead of the green checkmark and it stops there. Any clue what I’m doing wrong?

Can you click the text that says “Show Error”, scroll down so you can see the error text, and paste it here? Hopefully we can figure out what’s up. Also, be sure you are running the latest version (v047) as I fixed some bugs in the version that I initially launched with.

I think you can wait a while. I think the problem is my pc. Don’t waste your time
Thank you

OK, sounds good. Let me know if you have any other problems, or if this one gets in your way.

Hey Tyrant,
First look of your tool looks very good and promising.
Q: Doesn’t this do the same thing as Mission Commander?
A: Definitely not. For one thing Mission Commander can edit missions - VMT (currently) cannot. Mission Commander is a great tool for mission planners, but I wanted something that both mission planners and mission participants could use visualize the virtual battlefield.Nope not the same as MC, but very much the same as WDP
Enjoy the road of creating tools like this. Its very rewarding.
But be aware… you might end up getting tons of email, questions and hardly see the outside of your computer roomGr Falcas

Thanks, Falcas: high praise from the author of tools like MC and WDP, both of which are awesome. MC has been particularly helpful in the process of making VMT, since it has helped me understand the structure of the Falcon files better, and provided a source of truth for what’s in a mission file. Good stuff.
Nope not the same as MC, but very much the same as WDP
True, there’s definitely more overlap there, but I think WDP still does a ton of things that VMT does not. I do hope to add more features around data card management at some point, for example, but there’s very little in place for that now and it’ll be a while before I can even think about what I would want.

I’ll do that asap.
Another question meanwhile. I see the video you made has VMT running on Mac. Will that also come available? I use Macs for as good as all my work and only have a windows pc for BMS (dedicated game pc). This would make it easy for me to do some initial planning or reviewing without requiring me to get into the room where the BMS pc is at. -

I do all my dev on a Mac, so I hacked a few things into place to make it run there. Pretty much everything just loads from the filesystem, but there are a couple of extra setup steps required to emulate the registry and one or two other things. It’s not really a supported setup, but if you want to try it I can outline the steps. PM me - it will likely take a few tries to get it right.
Far easier if you just want to use it from a Mac, though, is to use Microsoft Remote Desktop to jump to your BMS Windows machine and use it there. I do that a bunch for testing it under Windows. If that’s a possibility for you, I recommend it.

I haven’t had a chance to look yet but Thanks for you efforts, it looks promising ,
Cheers. Shad

Here you go:
Thanks. That’s a new one on me. Can you confirm which version of Balkans you’re using? And can you send me (via PM) one of the TEs that are giving you trouble? I’ll try to reproduce the problem here. If I can, I should be able to figure out what it is and get it fixed.
One other thing you can do in the meantime is open the TE with Mission Commander and see if it complains about anything. MC is good at detecting common corruption problems with theaters/missions, and VMT isn’t yet particularly robust in the face of weirdness. Fairly likely this is a VMT bug, but we can’t rule out a theater/mission problem.
