Taxi and Landing Light operation F/A-18
-
In the BMS manual it states that the Landing/taxi light is not modeled in the 3D cockpit. To use the switch, according to the manual, you need to use the Callbacks for the switch. I have perused all of the manuals in the docs folder without even one mention of what the Callbacks are for the light switch.
I flew a F/A -18E night mission yesterday. The takeoff and climb were stupendous from Osan Airbase in South Korea. It was a BAI mission. My AI wingman and I almost cleared the entire battlefield. In my setup for final approach was right on course. Flaps Full down, gear down and locked, and speed brake extended. I was seconds from touching down on runway 27R when I lost almost complete spatial awareness. I touched down, however I was not on any hardened surface and in the next moment I smashed into a facility on the airfield.
I realized then, I had no landing light. It was pure darkness. WOW.
If anyone knows of where to find the publication of these callbacks, please help me find an answer.
Thank you all.

in ideal world the docs would be complete and correct and more easily searchable … but sometimes I find you just have to open the BMS-Full/Basic.key file in Notepad, and hit [ctrl+F] to search it.
SimLandingLightCycle 115 0 0x26 1 0 0 1 "GEAR: LIGHTS Switch - Cycle"
Then you at least know the exact keyword to search the docs further – SimLandingLightCycle
(I’ll save you the trouble and say the “0x26 1” translates to [shift+L].)
In this case this callback is covered in BMS-Technical-Manual.pdf but only by virtue of being “new/changed in 4.35”… eventually it will not be new anymore and may become harder to discover. But it’s there, in sec 15 which covers all the net changes since 4.32…
I think a great feature-request for the Alternative Launcher folks would be to offer a ‘search’ box for browsing the callbacks. (If it doesn’t already, I can’t remember.)
So eg. you could type “light” and see all the callbacks that have anything to do with lights.
C:\Falcon BMS 4.35\User\Config>type "BMS - Basic.key" | grep -i light SimMalIndLights 312 0 0x3D 1 0 0 1 "TEST: MAL & IND LTS Button - Hold" SimDoNothing -1 0 0XFFFFFFFF 0 0 0 -1 "======== 2.07 EXT LIGHTING PANEL ========" SimLandingLightCycle 115 0 0x26 1 0 0 1 "GEAR: LIGHTS Switch - Cycle" SimDoNothing -1 0 0XFFFFFFFF 0 0 0 -1 "======== 5.04 LIGHTING PANEL ========" SimInstrumentLight 116 0 0x2D 5 0 0 1 "LIGHT: INST PNL Knob (Primary) - Cycle" SimDedBrightness 116 0 0x2C 5 0 0 1 "LIGHT: DED Knob (Primary) - Cycle" SimInteriorLight 116 0 0x2E 5 0 0 1 "LIGHT: CONSOLES Knob (Flood) - Cycle" SimDoNothing -1 0 0XFFFFFFFF 0 0 0 -1 "======== 5.11 FLIGHT STICK ========" SimSpotLight -1 0 0x1F 1 0 0 1 "CKPIT: Spotlight - Toggle" SimStepFormationLightsUp -1 0 0x2D 1 0 0 1 "CKPIT: Formation Lights - Step Up" SimStepFormationLightsDown -1 0 0x2C 1 0 0 1 "CKPIT: Formation Lights - Step Down"

Hi, Raven,
I invite you to check out the “Mafia Files” (in the mediafire in my signature. It fixes your issues, and adds a lot of cockpit functionality. I have my Rhino set up this way, so it will work for you.
