Campaing Powder Keg: AI Ground NATO troups not moving… static
-
Hi all…
I tried playing this campaign for a couple of hours lately along my other campaings(playing multiple theaters), but after a couple of bombing runs and A-A interceptions flights, I noticed that none of the NATO AI ground troups are moving… I pushed time at x64 fast forwarding for 2hrs(BMS time), still no movement at day 1, 16hrs…
Is it a bug on my end, or Ground troups are getting moving after a longer delay?
Thanks…

Check the Croatian and Bosnian forces also.

Check the Croatian and Bosnian forces also.
I started a brand new campaign, and same problem:
NATO(light blue) ground units not moving…
Yugoslavian(Red) ground troups moving…I installed directly to v3.6(no prior version) a while ago…
When I saw this bug(a month ago but hadn’t reported) I went back to KTO but now I’d like to play this one a little… -
I’ve just completed a new test and now I’m pretty sure there’s something wrong with the Powder Keg campaing…
- Uninstalled Balkan theater(with uninstaller)
- downloaded the v3.6 full installer…
- Installed Balkans theater v3.6 from newly downloaded installer
- Started new P.K campaign…
- Fast Forward time for 3hrs Falcon time…
Result:
None of the NATO ground units are moving…
Checked some units “Status”:- They do have basic objectives(Reserve, Defend, Secure, etc.), no specifics…
- ETA : None
All non-NATO ground units are moving…
I’M going to try with an other campaign now…

It’s been since AF that I’ve flown Powder Keg, and even then I felt it exhibited the strangest behavior of the Balkans campaigns. It seems to me that what we have in BMS are straight ‘ports’ of those, retaining all of those quirks.
That said, what is the ground posture for Blue in you campaign? If they are ‘Major Offensive’ and not moving then surely something’s broken. If ‘Defensive’, then perhaps working as intended. As I said, it’s been about 11 years since I played Powder Keg, but I seem to recall your issue even then, and that was the reason I actually played the entire thing manually, including all troop movements and all Blue flights in theater, because it just didn’t work right otherwise.
Powder Keg is the one that you can win by ‘chopping off the head’, and I actually did so by air mobile to Belgrade. No troops actually crossed the border on the ground. And again, I think the reason I did that was because the Blue troops weren’t behaving correctly, as you are seeing now.
Air mobile doesn’t work the same way in BMS, it’s far more restrictive, not that it’s a bad thing, after all in AF you could air-mobile an entire Patriot battery on a couple of Blackhawks. These restrictions, however, make chopping off the head harder to achieve.
So I suspect that if you want to actually win Powder Keg, you’ll need to get creative, or at least hands-on with regard to manual control of ground units. That should work, even if it’s rather labor intensive. Or just play Under Siege or Balance of Power instead?

Yes, correct, those campign’s are ports from AF , you can tell by looking waypoints of naval forces. They are all the same.
But AF didn’t suffer of non-moving ground units , there’s something else going on … but, yeah, whole Balkans needs fixing bigtime in BMS… even KTO , your airbases in KTO will never be repaired by engineers for example.Airmobile is not too restrictive , you CAN move entire patriot battalion with 1 Osprey or CH-46/47, but seems they wont ‘budge’ after. It’s somewhat tricky. Still need to test with C-130 , maybe…
In AF was the same , some units can’t be moved after airmobile , they won’t move after… it was designed only for airmobile infantry etc… not tanksIf you want to play some kind realistic and not cheat you wont airmobile M1A1 on Beograd, I’m sure that, that war couldn’t be won like that.
(not even by assassination of former president Milosevich , it would only add oil into fire, they needed to learn a lesson, heavy-headed… yeah)
So chopping the head in Falcon was kind of a cheat.Setting winning/loosing conditions is easy , so you can make it harder if you want to play longer, not finish in 4,5 days , … it is possible.

Good post white fang, I haven’t fooled around with air-mobile much since I got in to BMS. Once I saw that my old AF methods no longer worked I sort of gave it up. But it’s good to know it’s still possible, just with other aircraft? I’m not averse to shipping an armor battalion by Osprey
Seriously though, I find manual control of ground units in BMS less than reliable, particularly with air defense units such as Hawks and Patriots. I might take control and order one from Seoul to Kaesong for example, then check a few hours later and they now have a waypoint to go guard Kunsan. Even combat troops aren’t immune, under HQ control or not. For example I’ve had troops 2 miles from capturing Wonsan suddenly turn to head for Choongwon for some reason.
So having a few ‘non-standard’ work arounds available is OK with me. If I can use CH-47s to transport those SAM and AAA units I might finally be able to have my SAM umbrella keep pace with the advance.

I tried to find way to see what DBond is meaning by changing"ground posture", but haven’t found anywhere to change it…
I gave a try with the other campaigns, but I finally got bored of those long 200 Nm flights heavily limiting the F-16 weapons loadout(With F-15E it isn’t too bad tho as it has Huge tanks)…
I went back to KTO, on the Iron Fortress campaign…

Well, you can’t manually change ground posture. Look under Intel and you’ll see it.
It’s either defensive, offensive or consolidating, and the program will shift this for you automatically depending on how things are going in your campaign.

You can control ground troops which I what I said me have to happen in the main Balkans thread.
