Which Warthog button for PTT?
-
I’m very excited to be using SemlerPDX’s Voice Attack system - it’s like magic.
In pursuit of ‘authenticity’, which button on the Warthog should I be using for Push-to-Talk?
Thanks
Alan

I have it mapped to pinky + comms switch forward.
Cheers, Uwe

AlanDoubt if it’s authentic but I use the red pinky button on the throttle…

The COM switch is typically on the throttle. If you are using a Warthog throttle set, it would be what they call the “Boat Switch” below the Speed Brake. If you are using a Cougar throttle the UHF and/or VHF switch would be about as “real” as you can get.
BTW - the combination of a Warthog stick and a Cougar throttle with a RealSim TUSBA is your best entertainment value for keeping things “real”!

Gentlemen, I thank you for your helpful responses, clearly demonstrating no consensus whatsoever and thus enabling me to think that whatever I do will be suitably ‘authentic’!
Stevie, I actually do possess a Cougar throttle (with u/s radar slew but that’s now fixeable I know). It has a hall sensor conversion which I installed around the age of the dinosaurs, the ab detent disappeared years ago, and the ‘anti-stiction’ tape means it can sometimes go into full ab when you didn’t mean to, but it is more ergonomically suited to the hand than the Warthog. But no nice green lights…. spoiled for choice really.

The TUSBA will upgrade the Cougar throttle to 12 bit resolution over the Cougar’s 10, which to me is an even better upgrade than a Hall pot and far more noticeable. You should check it out - I have one, and am becoming more convinced I’d like a second one - I have three Cougar throttles!

I use the coolie hat on the warthog for the F-16 comm switch. It uses the same fingers as the real hotas, index finger left hand. Down (forward, wrapping my hand further around the grip) is VHF because I use that the most to talk to flight. UHF is up. IFF inboard/outboard are the obvious.
My warthog MIC switch is FOV on the fore-aft and range knob on the vertical (rarely used), uncage on press.

Bigfish, you’ve hit the nail on the head. It boils down to personal preference, what you want to do, and your setup. If you’re on Teamspeak swapping files and such, putting PTT on your mouse hand can be an issue. As I do, and as a left handed “mouser” , a PTT on the throttle was a problem. For me, setup was also an issue. My DX/FOV is on my throttle pinky button, Hornet-style. The point being you have to figure out what is best for you and your setup.
I have used a variation of Uwe’s “shifted PTT” and it did feel nicely realistic. If TS offered a "continuous " setting that you could turn on and off from the HOTAS, that’s probably what I would use.
I’ve also mapped it to “*”, and have done a “push speak” and “strangle speak” using Voice Attack.
Right now I am using the Warthog Boat switch like Stevie, for the “hot mic” that can be turned on and off functionality.
