Are CBUs working the way they are supposed to on BMS?
-
Hey, guys!!
I’ve been trying to use CBUs to destroy an SA-5 battalion by lofting, but in spite of the fact that the CBUs (87,97 and mk-82) are precisely dropped right at the target position - or at least very close to them (i’m lofting), they simply don’t destroy any of the SA-5 battalion… The only good experience i’ve had so far was that I managed to destroy a few trucks, but still, some of the bombs fall right beside or over the targets and most of them remain intact. Is there anything wrong?I’m sure there is nothing to do with arm delay, tried shorter configs etc…
I know the CBUs are hitting where they are supposed to, because I watched them falling and exploding mostly over the targets location.
Israel campaign / the last one (forgot the name) / no mods
CBUs 97, 87 and mK-82 were experimented / attack method: LOFT
Thank you, BMS Devs!!!

What’s the BA burst alltidude you have set the CBU to? Make a ACMI recording and check if the trajectory even reaches the BA. CBU in BMS have their most impact at 1500 -2500 ft AGL

Hi, Oakdesign!! I’ve set to 200ft. I’ll try 1500-2500!! Thanks

…and drop in pairs.
But frankly, I think an SA-5 would bite and chew you up if you if you were to try this in RL…

Hey, Stevie, thanks for the tip!!

Agree.
And there are even more creative ways to kill yourself, you know.
With best regards.

Low and hi level EZ of the S-200E Vega.

I’ve used this as a general guide for years… Not sure how helpful it might be (or if it is accurate, never asked and seemed to work well on mission, so I just assumed…)
-
Interesting overview, Semler, thanks.
You mention that this may not be accurate, so I would like to ask if anyone knows the real modelled in-game relation between burst altitude and footprint/blast radius?
Another aspect is that lethality/damage would decrease with altitude too, so does anyone know the relation between altitude and damage ?
Cheers,

Well, I
ve been destroying SA-5s with these CBUs more accurately after all suggestions here, so thank you, guys!! Perhaps BMS Devs could improve the SA-5 so it becomes more difficult for us to kill it, and powerful, even though I
ve always been told that the SA-5 is not meant to destroy fighters with the level of maneuverability that we have in an F-16. -
SA-5 is obsolete and was mainly destined to big non maneuverable bombers.

It’s like I have to repeat that sentence every time I’m discussing a COMAO.

And fast missiles like the AGM-28.
Yes, it can be considered as obsolete but somehow it could shot down an Israel F-16I not so long ago.The max. 10G of the missile at med alt. is not so high but if you consider the M3.0 speed then it became.
It is not so easy to dodge. It can be considered obsolete because of the painful operation with a 7+ ton missile which so many limitations regarding:
Min. eng. dist.
Min. eng. alt.
The insanely dangerous liq. fuel. It used the same as the SA-1/2. -

Sure.
This is why we keep it in game. -
They Hit the Square pair with harms first which denies the launchers from firing and then they hammer the launchers with cbu or mavs.

This is why we keep it in game.It would be great to have the 3D model of the real SA-5 site.
It was posted in a topic of a 3rd party theater as I can recall (?) but so fat nothing happened following my question regarding it. -

…they look like typical SAM sites to me.

The first image is just a missile launcher area, it is very, very far from a complete site…
