Any REAL F-16 pilots in there?
-
You’re right. They probably enjoy relaxing with CoD, jump on their WII or some other stress reliever, brain dead game. But to fly the real thing then come back to fly the simulated thing…. maybe not.
There may be one or two that are retired but they’re the very rare exception rather than the norm.
Believe you? why should I? Please clarify.I get your point here WynnTTr, Flying for real and then sit for 1 hour in front of the sim … not really gonna happen. Before i started my training, i buyer Flight Sim … but once i started the flying, the cross country flights … flight sim was just good to practice instrument flying.
And in the military you do Simulator time, as well as in the civil aviation, therefore coming back home and doing it … for “fun” … isn’t fun anymore.
But it has nothing to do with the personality that one requires to have to be a PILOT … not at all … not at all.
Now you asked me to clarify, i am going to.
My instructor was a Fighter Pilot, i introduced him to Falcon, he enjoyed … but, where i rejoin you, sitting in front of a sim when he comes back home, having kids, wife … is not easy. And also … it is true, people who fly are passionate … but the need to disconnect from it is also there.

Now look what you’ve gone and done. LOL!

I seriously doubt there are F-16 pilots here or any combat pilot in any gaming forum. The main reason - they’re too busy flying the real thing. If not I highly doubt that the type of personality required to be a combat pilot would frequent a gaming forum. They might have input (if you paid their consultancy fee), yes, but to actually play and post, highly doubtful. The closest we gamers will get to actual combat personal is if they consulted on the game be it DCS:A-10C or CoD.
I seriously doubt the poster that comes on bragging about flying fighter jets. Remember the first rule of the internet - it’s probably a guy. No wait, I meant the second rule - believe nothing until proven.
Couldn’t talk out your ass any more than you are.
I personally know 2 lts, a major, a ltcol, a brigadier general and an assortment of NCOs who play Arma 2. Many of whom had combat exp. I don’t see why this gaming community would be any different.

That’s nice but they’re still fps, bet they also enjoy the occasional game of CoD black ops too. But where’s the fighter pilot coming here working the avionics after working on the real deal. Have you seen them in any combat flight sim forum? Show me one on here… just one F-16 pilot. I’ll wait.
Sure there are alot of civil pilots, just as there are alot of military people playing video games. some of my friends are Royal Australian Navy and I know a couple who are Army and they kick back also… again playing WII, Kinect or some other brainless fun.
All you’re doing is talking out of your arse, just as I am until proven otherwise.

I think you are very wrong on this one.
Agree 100%. The Harrier pilot I know told me in confidence and proved it to me. He has never stated in public that he is a pilot. He loves to fly Falcon and is impressed with certain implementations of weapons systems although he has pointed out the difference in the real deal.
I don’t think any are out for recognition. Also, the pilots today are pretty young for the most part and I’m sure they all still have a PC and an XBOX, lol, as they can afford it.

Is he still on active duty? If he is, ask him would he play a Harrier sim after flying in one all day? - and I’m not trying to take the piss either. It’s a real question that could just change my mind on the matter and only because you’ve been around for ages RAM.

So it’s ok for guys who have shot people who were 100 meters away from them (in real life) to play games (doing the same thing they did while in combaT) but not for combat pilots?

@Icarus: With the NWS button. If you don’t have a Cougar, it’s
LOL Toad. Damn, I only have an FSSB-R2:(. Your not crazy and you have a good sense of humour.

Yes he is, he’s set to deploy soon. He’s never said that he jumps into Falcon after a day of flying in RL but has told me he likes to fly Falcon during down times. Last we spoke he was making sure he had everything setup on correctly on his Laptop for the tour of duty. Like I said he mentioned that some of the stuff, Litening Pod, TGP, and related HUD symbology is modeled nicely as compared to it’s RL counterparts.

He plays Falcon, a totally different aircraft to the one he currently flies. When he does, he’s just like one of us - dreaming that he’s a Viper pilot. Just like all these civil pilots playing BMS. It’s something that’s totally disconnected to what they do every day.
And just to pre-empt you, games like Arma, CoD, are still fps and not as realistic as a study sim like BMS or DCS. You have to admit that the level of concentration and commitment to play sims requires a totally different mindset than playing a fps or something lighter. Or are you saying that fps shooters are in the same league as BMS?
I wouldn’t be surprised to hear of F-16 pilots bragging about their scores on Hawx - mainly because it’s mindless fun.
But for one to fly and go through the routine on a daily basis to then come home and try to recreate a ramp start, radio tower, then fly in realistic environment, I just don’t see it happening. Sure you could argue that they’d play this for combat and blowing things up but I’m pretty sure the whichever military has far more capable, complex and infinitely more fun, simulators than what we see on a 24in screen with a shop bought gpu.@RAM22:

Would he fly a Harrier sim in his downtime though. During down times he’s just like one of us.

Actually, I didn’t read that correctly in your previous post, sorry. He commented on the Harrier in FF and about the similarities but never mentioned flying it per se.
So as far as flying a Harrier sim, I would probably tend to think not. He mentioned flying the F16I in ITO2 and that was what he was trying to get setup.

WinTTr …. What is your problem ??? are you frustrated or what ? … your talking non sense … on non sense. You completely are wrong and you have pre constructed ideas about things.
Take it easy dude … really. We got your point. … Go on F-16.net and ask there if any of them plays falcon.
A Harrier Pilot dreaming like you he is in a F-16 … What is wrong with you ?
No problem. Just like to know what I read is based on fact. Topic of the thread - read it again. Where is the thread? Here. I’m responding here and I might just go to F-16.net and ask there if my work firewall will let me through it. Only post on forums at work otherwise I’d be flying at home.
I’m talking nonsense? Ok, I’ll spell it out because you missed the gist of that statement. If someone’s playing a game why would they play it? For entertainment, to live out a life that’s different to rl, to do something they wouldn’t do ordinarily in their every day. So yeah, if a pilot, be it Harrier, commerical, whatever, or your average kid is playing Falcon he’s doing it cos he likes flying the F-16. In that sense a Harrier pilot is just like one of us. Granted he’s got much, much more knowledge on the systems than we do but he’s still playing a game.
I’ll sign up and ask on F-16.net whether any F-16 pilots play BMS, FF or AF or just some console fun.

Wrong … one example is me (no more fighter jet right now, it’s why I tell you!) … and I know at least 4 other here.
EDIT: 5 now with Toad.

HI 72n_TOAD
Do you have any link to give me for a website where you can actually practice with NDB’S ? … ADF sucks big time … any idea ? thanks
Tim’s Air avigation Simulator is a classic for getting your head around the needles. Still out there, I’m sure.
