Cougar TQS can it be used with Warthog Joystick..

Found a slightly used Cougar TQS USB and a new Warthog Joystick for a substantial discount. They are both USB can they be used in conjunction with each other?

You can do this in either two ways:
First, buy a TUSBA, it will allow you to hook the tqs in your pc through an usb adapter.
Second, Keep your tqs hooked in your cougar and have both the warthog and the cougar pluged in. In the bms control setup you can assign different functions to the two devices.

Thanks, don’t have the Cougar stick though. Thrustmaster just emailed me back and said I couldn’t use this with the Warthog stick. Now using the gameport to USB adaptor is interesting. Need to look into this. I already have a TQS from my F22 Pro wouldn’t this work with this as well. It seems that the F16 FLCS TQS is the same as the Cougars. Am I correct?
If this works this would be great.

They lie….there are three (or more) ways to use a Cougar TQS with a Warthog stick. These are the three I’ve done personally -
-
full-up Cougar setup through the CCP to ignore the stick; full Cougar and Warthog stick plugged in.
-
Cougar TQS modified to USB using a Bodner interface board; Warthog stick; both plugged into USB. (this is the hardest way…)
-
Warthog stick; RealSim TUSBA R2; both plugged into USB. (this is the easiest way…)
All three of the above work nicely.

Go to www.realsim.com buy the TUSBA, I did and it works great!!!

Will it work with the F16 TQS? I would imagine they are the same as they both are gameport.

TUSBA will convert your din / pin Cougar throttle connection to a standard USB device, so yes, you can easily combine this with a WT stick (or any other USB stick) then.
All the best, Uwe

Hi SgtT11B
In general any USB stick/throttle/etc… can be used in conjunction with each other in BMS. It’s just a matter of configurating them in the UI.
I’m curious about the “TQS USB”…… is it the Cougar TQS with Realsimulator TUSBA adaptor? Cougar TQS’ are normaly conected via the stick.Any pitures??
Best regards

Thanks for all your help guys…I just ordered the TUSBA. I currently have a Thrustmaster F16 TQS and F22 Pro. I just found a great deal on a Thrustmaster Warthog Joystick on Craigslist I am picking up on Monday. I will couple this with my F16 TQS with TUSBA and get back in the air. Looking forward to it. Next question, which joystick mapping setup do you recommend. Is the Cougar and Warthog map outlay the same for the Joystick. I would imagine it would be.

Yep! Same outlay. The Warthog has an extra “button” in the CMS switch. I guess you could call it a depressable four-way switch.

I have one, it works. VERY well…
Have one aswell, but never got it working properly… (spiking all over the place)
May give another try soon -
The initial Cougar throttle I have had spiking problems too…turned out that once I replaced the ANT ELEV pot it settled down. If you study the circuit you’ll see that there are a number of places the pot(s) share common with the buttons…took me quite a bit to get the TQS I converted with a Bodner board to settle out.
Also - there are several iterations of firmware for the TUSBA, and I found some of the earlier ones actually worked better than the later ones - I did a lot of experimenting, have been keeping up to date but haven’t been experimenting of late. I can say the they folks at RealSim are very responsive to user feedback - in some cases they even sent me firmware updates overnight in response to some of my e-mails, so if you have issues by all means let them know and they’ll help.

Stevie, I notice you are in Cali. Where exactly. If I need help hopefully I can contact you. I live in El Segundo, which is near LAX on the beach.

I’m in the high desert…north of EAFB. But great to know there’s as many of us in the area as there are - several cockpit builders in SoCal, and we should all do a real meet-up someday.

My Warthog manual states that the Cougar’s stick is backwards compatible . . . You can mount it to the Warthog and lose button-19 only. Does this sound correct?

Hi guys, I have a question about this very setup. I just received my TUSBA v2 and bought a Warthog stick. I was wondering should I just calibrate these in Windows Control Panel? Also, how in BMS do I get BOTH to work at the same time? In the dropdown I have Keyboard, Warthog, and TUSBA as my choices. It seems like if I choose the TUSBA, the throttle works in BMS, if I choose the Warthog, then it works. How do you get both to work together?
Sorry, I’m an idiot… it’s been a long while since I was on BMS and forgot to go into the advanced area under controllers. All good now! lol

Once you connect the TUSBA, you should select as controller the Warthog joystick, then in the advanced controller options, flight controls, assign the throttle axis to the throttle option, so too for the rudder (if you have). Once you have done this, go to the avionics control and do the same for the different knobs. Let me know if you need clarification wi this. I’ll be glad to help.
