chasing a cruise missile… a true tiny target for gunnery.
I test a cruise missile idea that I posted on some forum many years ago…
the result is quite pleasing.1. replace a bomber with cruise missile model, set correct hitbox. have one slot for internal HP.
2. in FE/f4browse, set minimal alt 1, cruise alt 1-3, max cruise alt no more than 1000ft.
ACD use bomber brain, sensor -eye. loadout, one internal HP, invisible. for one bomb.
3. in TE, it acts as bomber, flight profile need minor adjust, but most alt is low and ok.
4. it fly like bomber, low and fast, can follow terrain. once over target, a bomb drops and hit target, then the shock wave hit the missile(fake bomber), and destroy it. it means the fake bomber won’t return to home base.
5. it has RCS and IR signature, I fly F22 to shoot it down with AAM and gun. chasing it at low is cool.
6. if use this trick in campaign, you are cruise missile planning officier.
the missile squadron will work like a bomber sq, need an airbase. you can have many cool TOT plans, tortuous routes for missiles, all at your command. enemy air defense may shoot them down… if they can detect them timely.
7. if you want the missile fired from ships… then the ship should be set as a fake carrier, and place missile/fake bomber squadron on it. then you can have some warship launching one-way bomber to various targets, at the first hour of campaign… taking out many AFBs, radar stations, army bases, etc…
8. of course, the warhead of missile can be loaded with CBU or SFW submunition… better for hammering SAM/armour units. -

This was the only way to achieve to SAMs work on CM just used tweaks FM for flying as Kh-22 to record the massive ASM salvo against A CBG.
Hopefully if ever be ASM/ARM modeling it will be someting like that. -

for ship to shot down CM… maybe a tweaked, very short-ranged ARM/ASM can be loaded on such fake CM. once CM closing to ships, if ship can detect and shot down CM timely, CM won’t release ARM/ASM. AGM12/65A seems a good pick for such mod.

But this fake CMs could not be carried. I can’t wait the time when BMS4 will be able to model such things.

tested this in AF a lot some years ago:

I used to have no acess to *.dat files (encrypted), so it was quite tricky (to stitch weapon and carrier AC).I am curious about today possibilites in BMS - what can we achieve according 3D takeoff from carrier (cruiser, destroyer).
It would be great, if we could set vertical launch (and takeoff speed) beside forward catapult launch.For example vertical launch for heli (true heli or fake-AC heli) - define spot coordinate on model + set speed 15 kt (high 100m)
For cruise missile - spot + set speed 300 kt (high 150m)after launch, there would be transition to normal flight….
Such a catapult setting would be supercool.PS. my cruise missiles have used CMs (both chaff and flares). But I am not sure if they are capable in real (i doubt).

BTW - another parameter “smoke ON/OFF” during launch would be great (steam, smoketrail for ACs and missiles or nothing for heli).
…and there should be some more tweaks for AI behavior…they can not abandon the mission and return back (finish at all cost)
If the inner AC model is small recon drone it is not so big problem after main weapon jettisoned. -
Hey, C3: what’s my likely issue if I convert a .lod and everything converts except the fuselage .lod (all one subtree) so it looks like all the moving parts and the rest is like Wonder Woman’s invisible jet?

Which model?
If the lod nodetree too long, converter may fail to convert. Most switch or moving parts are shorter nodetree, fuselage nodetree is much longer. -
Hayab’s MiG-25. Does seem fairly lengthy compaired to others, as it’s all mostly one piece…
