4.34 ATC : IMPORTANT INFORMATION
-
Maybe country depedent, but the “base leg call” is more a civilian stuff (rectangular patterns). I’ve never been asked to call “base” not “down wind” but only “final turn” or “finial” because overhead approach is not a rectangular pattern.
To be confirmed (or in-firmed) by other military jet pilots.
-
I have heard of “perch” call which is last moment on downwind still at circuit height for overhead. It was combined with “3 green” call to confirm landing gear. See BEM Korea 3.22.2.
I don’t know exact verbiage but something like “Cowboy 1-1, perch, three green, runway three two right.” Double check that because that could be a lot of US Navy stuff mixed in there. Maybe USAF uses different words but I’m 90% sure there’s some mention of being gear down and locked right immediately before leaving the 1500’ height into the descending turn at the “perch” or “key” or “45” or whatever position by any other name. Considering how slowly the AI talks “Cowboy one one, (perch? base?) gear down” would be great for BMS.
See also AFI 11…F-16v3 3.16 gear checks.

real world viper pilot I flew BMS with (non US AF) his squadron kept it very short & concise: “C/S Base, Gear, 23L,”
EDIT: “intentions” yes agree with Rainmaker. I accidentally left that piece out.
-
Seems pretty common on the USAf side for them to call intentions(full stop, low approach, touch and go) on the downwind when in home station patterns. Dude11, base, 3 green, full stop(low approach, etc).
Fast foward to about 1:15:00 in for all the pattern work.
-
Yeah but who is doing training maneuvers in a combat theater?
-
That is completely true, intentions would be pretty well known I would think. You don’t commonly find full length HUD tapes from in theater though to uderstand what may be different. They still may/may not use the same process. It’s not only for them, but SA for the folks in the tower tracking who’s where from the ‘initial’ call.

Then I am wrong Thank you for input!
But what you be the “added value” to add that call except added one more action on Comm’s menu for the “fun”? (which could be painful for non VAC users). I mean … does the ATC code needs it?

Just adding info to the discussion. No real argument from me. Radio menu is cumbersome enough, always has been as the times you are trying to use it the most often is when you already have a lot going on.
It would be a pretty neat option IMO if you had the ability to state intent(full stop, low approach, etc) at some point…or…if it’s not already available (don’t know as I have not flown), the ability for tower to let you stay in a closed pattern so you could practice pattern work if the airfield is not too busy.

Think about available frags. We can’t create voices. This is still an issue ATM.
-
guys
do you think i could remove the UHF frequencies from the switch To “tower” / “ground” calls ? this was initial implementation long time ago,
If that was just me i would remove them
opinions ?

… Edited …

Interesting! So no ability to create new ATC voices/comms? I had no idea.

not entirely true
we managed to used several frags that we cut / paste and edit to create new ones but it is tricky
-
I would say yes (IRL they don’t say it anyway …) because you can’t do mistake=> try to set 243.000 on VHF or 123.500 on UHF.
For me, big yes! No prob.
Do some airfields have multiple departure freqs IRL? I know I’ve heard tower calls before where they have announced departure freq with the freq change authorization. “Alpha, tower, clear for takeoff, contact depature and/or frequency announced either in place of sayig departure or both said.
I would think it would help for those that don’t have charts handy no?

Gotcha! I wondered how the AWACS calls that were in the video were done then. That makes sense…awefully complicated by the sounds of it.

I would think so. I’ll always check and use the radio plan generated by the sim.

And results may be “variable” … even if I have to say that you’ve done some magics about it!

… mmm … reading again … I am not sure I correctly understood you. (?)
Do you mean suppressing the frequency digits? … In that case I would say no, better keep em (except if we can ask the tower to give the frequency) … imagine a divert/or emergency case where pilot don’t have time to pick up its AIPs. Or in case of failures of UFC with no more presets. Only based a/c can consider freq as “SOPs” … on “external” AB, pilots need the freq in clear because they are not always the one published.

Yeah agree hence my previous post edit. I was thinking about something different.

Is there a chance that a TTS engine will some day find a way to BMS?
