Head Tracker FOV\Zoom
-
I’ve got my head tracker set up to alter the FOV in BMS - that’s the way I like it in flight sims - and besides I have an X-52 so I can hardly map FOV to an axis because of the jitter.
But I don’t get much of a range of FOV change and it’s cramping my style a little.
How do other people set their head tracking up ?

When I was flying with my X52 Pro throttle, I used Joystick Gremlin to forward the slider axis to a vjoy axis, and set a “curve” on that axis that was actually ten steps, so you’d get incremental FOV changes vs a linear change suffering from jitter. Worked fantastic.
Another option is to bind a button to the zoom in callback.
Either way, I do not recommend using head tracking for zoom. It’s extremely disorienting, and hard to be accurate with it.

What kind of head tracking software are you using?
All the best, Uwe

I use Opentrack Uwe

Have you tried playing with the curves in opentrack? You should be able to set a rather steep ascent so the FOV decreases to your liking.
I don’t find it disorientating at all, in fact I really love the “binoculars” effect when looking outside, just like real pilots bringing a pair of binoculars on the mission.
Cheers, Uwe

I use a button-driven virtual axis for FOV so spiking is no issue. TIR based FOV sounds awful. But if you want to adjust FOV limits there are falcon bms.cfg values that will set the minimum and maximum FOV.

Once you get everything set up right it works great. Lean in and get a zoomed in view of what ever you are looking at. It’s kinda a cheat, but works great.
