Head Tracker FOV\Zoom
I’ve got my head tracker set up to alter the FOV in BMS - that’s the way I like it in flight sims - and besides I have an X-52 so I can hardly map FOV to an axis because of the jitter.
But I don’t get much of a range of FOV change and it’s cramping my style a little.
How do other people set their head tracking up ?

RE: Heaters, flares and AI
Assuming a pilot can see an attackers aircraft over his shoulder, is there a chance he might also see a missile coming off the rail ?
It’s very obvious to the firing pilot, apparently it’s a pretty dramatic event from everything I’ve read. But then it’s all happening a few feet sideways of him and he’s got a great view of the missiles fiery end.
It must be a very small group of people who have had an air to air missile launched at them from 6 o’clock heat range and survived to talk about it, but I’ll keep watching pilot interviews and reading books to see if I can find out.
It’ll be a real chore to do that obviously, but I’m public spirited and everything -
Korean BEM document
I’m working my way through the docs while waiting for my new video card and found “Korean_BEM-Vol5.pdf” in BMS’s Other Documentation\Real Manuals….and what an absolute gem it is.
Should be required reading for the virtual fighter pilot.
Where did it originate ? training material prepared by the US, obviously, but I just wondered what the story was and if there is anything else in the series available anywhere on the web ?

RE: MASSIVE FPS drop with clouds/overcast after 4.34
I really like the new clouds, I spend a lot of time flying in less than optimal visibility - it adds interest to takeoffs and recoveries for me. They are way better implemented than the ones in DCS 1.5 ( I’ll compare them with DCS 2.5 when my memory, GPU and SSD arrive )
Having an option to tone down their FPS impact would be a very good thing though IMO.

RE: MASSIVE FPS drop with clouds/overcast after 4.34
What would you say is more important at the moment for Falcon?
Faster CPU while keeping the GPU as it is or a better GPU while overclocking the CPU slightly? You could run something like MSI Afterburner in the background with the performance graphs enabled to try and get an idea of where the bottleneck is.
For me it was the GPU’s hitting 100% useage while the CPU wasn’t working that hard, but with a piece of software like BMS that’s evolved into something the original designers never intended I suppose it can only ever be a guide.Your motherboard might make overclocking as easy as selecting a single option in the BIOS that gives you a recommended set of changes - a performance boost that’s OK with most CPU’s - or it could be an absolute nightmare of faffing about with individual settings. You may well also need a cooler upgrade. It could be a lot of effort for a small ( or no ) increase in frames…

Tazz - " Can you please post some specs in your reply? Because we have no idea what “old and creaky” means to you? "
i5 2.8ghz with overclock, 2X GTX560 in SLI, 8gb system ram, Win 7
Running Opentrack and MSI Afterburner ( to limit frames, no overclock on the video cards - caused artifacts ) in the background -
RE: MASSIVE FPS drop with clouds/overcast after 4.34
I experienced pretty much the same FPS drop as the original poster under the same circumstances - I have what was once a pretty good spec gaming PC - but is now old and creaky, like its owner.
So it’s a real enough issue, for two of us at least.
I’ve taken it as a sign I should finally upgrade, but one of the nice things about BMS ( and there are a lot of them ) is that you don’t need the latest hardware to get into flying a properly realistic simulation. It would be nice if that continued to be the case.

Saitek X52 issue SOLVED
I tried setting up my Saitek X52 to send keyboard commands through the profiler, in an effort to get the HOTAS setup the way I like it.
It’s not working for some reason. The SST software test box shows the keypresses being sent, but Falcon 4.34 is completely ignoring them.
What on earth am I doing wrong here ? is it me ?
SOLVED - figured the stupid thing out….

X-52 losing joystick buttons in flight
A very short time into any of the TE training missions in 4.34 I lose some of the joystick buttons. No, they haven’t physically fallen off they stop working.
I’m using the Saitek profiler - but my profile for the stick is just to disable that pointless clutch and the hopeless mouse functions, giving me some more buttons - it worked OK in 4.3, still works fine with every other sim and is reporting OK in Windoze device manager.
The specifics are that I’m losing the DX shift button I set up ( what was previously the clutch ) and also three of the others ( Fire, A, B ) that don’t have a shift applied to them.
It’s ever so slightly annoying, can anyone help ?
