Helmet Visor (ALT V) not working
-
I understand the Helmet Visor feature is another great addition to BMS.
But for some reason, pressing Alt V on the keyboard to activate the Helmet Visor doesn’t seem to work. I’ve tried it in both the 2D and 3D cockpit.
I found several threads discussing the Helmet Visor but neither provided a solution in getting this new feature to work.
In reading the BMS 4.34 Manual, page 112 states: This toggles the helmet visor up / down for better readability of the HUD in bright conditions. The view is darkened a bit. The tint is configurable in 3dckpt.dat file via visor_tint_color. It makes no mention of requiring anything else like Track IR, Oculus Rift, etc., tracking devices that I don’t have.
I couldn’t locate the file 3dckpt.dat. But I did find a file called 3dckpit.dat. Note the “i” between the letters p and t. Not sure if this is a typographical error in the manual or if I found the wrong file.
I located the file 3dckpit.dat file at: …\Falcon BMS 4.34\Data\Art\CkptArt. Using Notepad ++, I opened the file and searched the lines for: “visor_tint_color” (without quotes), but couldn’t find it.
Similarly, I searched for: “DOF COMP_HELMET_VISOR 99” (again, without quotes), but couldn’t find it either. This was something I found in another thread.
I’d really like to get this feature working. Any help, suggestions, or recommendations would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

What keyfile do you use? Which one of them have you loaded in the in-game Setup → Controllers page?

I have the visor working without editing any files except .key file. Try setting the key to something different like ‘A’. You might have an issue with your key file so perhaps edit that line to the top. Check for double binds as well which is why my “DBU toggle” didn’t work. I had more than one callback assigned to shift-D.

Johku, thanks for your reply. I normally use the BMS - Full keyfile. But I also tried BMS Basic and BMS Full_Old but neither worked. I didn’t realize that using Alt V might be dependent on which keyfile I used. There’s mention of that in the BMS Manual.
Frederf, thanks too for your response. Unfortunately, I don’t know how to set " … the key to something different like ‘A’, or “check for double binds …” Would it be too much to ask for step by step
instructions on how to do this, or is that beyond the scope of this thread? -
Do you still fly with the 2d cockpit aka snapview pit, accessible from the 2 key?
If so the visor works only in 3d pit. The one which is tied to the 3 key -

Red Dog, yes, I primarily use the 2d pit. But, I tried Alt V in the 3d pit and it didn’t work there either.
Stalker, thanks … I’ll send you an email.

Still no resolution to my problem of Helmet Visor (ALT V) not working.
I “thought” I was on the right track when I found the Alt V function in the BMS – Basic.key file.
It was at line 438 as follows: SimVisorToggle -1 0 0x2F 4 0 0 1 “CKPIT: Visor - Toggle”
So, I started BMS 4.34, loaded the BMS – Basic.key profile, and confirmed that Alt V was shown in the box - that is, when I pressed Alt V on the keyboard, the left column labeled Key showed Alt V. The right column labeled Mapping showed SimVisorToggle -1 0 0x2F 4 0 0 1 “CKPIT: Visor - Toggle”. This looked promising.
But once I got into the 3D world, took off, and pressed Alt V on the keyboard as I was flying, it didn’t work. Absolutely no change to the HUD. I tried it several times and nothing happened.
Does anyone have any ideas, suggestions? I’d really like to use the helmet visor but maybe it’s not meant to be … ?

Make a key file (temporary) with only one line in it for the visor. And try to set it to the simplest key like ‘a’ on the keyboard, no shift no alt no ctrl. Simplify until you get something working then add the complexity back in in layers.

Do you have HDR enabled?

Hello Guys and Happy Christmas,
I have similar issue, where is located the file " 3dckpt.dat"? As mentioned above there is one file, but it has it is nominated “3dckpti.dat” and inside there is not any line pointing to “visor_tint_color”. I would like to modify the color that at the present is much darker than 4.34.Thanks
-
Ever aircraft has it’s own 3dckpit.dat in Falcon BMS 4.xx\Data\Art\CkptArt and even the line for visor_tint_color is not there by default, it could be added and the format for the color is ABGR

Thanks for your answer, in fact inside this directory there are many others for each plane: should I create this file from scratch and save it inside in those planes I would like to flight??

Did you have load your pilot 4.34 key profile into the 4.35 ?
