Multiplayer zoom feature request
-
I would consider a server or "multi"player option that restricted zoom to the use of the “Look” function only.
I currently don’t know if that callback is a “variable” or fixed in the code. Is it tamper proof ?
Would this make those concerned happy.
My FOV is set to 50 which makes main-screen MFDs closer to the size of my MFD bezels mounted on my pit secondary monitor.
-
Now this is not really handy in a turning fight but considering that Eagle pilots have used scopes to enable them to visually acquire and ID targets, I don’t think that Zoom is all that bad.
Then again, I do not play PvP dogfights so I don’t really have an issue either way.

You could just as simply get the same effect by having a high resolution display and a standard FoV. If the FoV is limited, getting a higher res screen gives you that zoom anyway…
The person asking doesn’t understand how displays work.

Just because you have a High def screen doesn’t make things easier to see from a distance. Does not change FOV/Zoom or perceived object size. It means that an “object” that occupies the same personal FOV (not screen FOV) has greater detail. Single pixel gets smaller but more are used.
IF the screen gets larger and occupies more viewing space for a person and retains a lower def (1920x1200), same FOV then view range is increased.
There too many variables, distance to screen, size of screen, dot pitch, level and type of AA, condition of a persons eyes.
For me FOV @ 60 on a 32" 2560x1440 screen, a parked SU-27, viewed from 10,000m or 30,000ft (5.4nm) is >=5 pixels long & has a wing span of <=4 pixels, which is 1.39x1.12mm (rounding).
Still FOV @ 60 on a 32" 1920x1080 screen, a parked SU-27, viewed from 10,000m or 30,000ft (5.4nm) is 4 pixels long & has a wing span of <= 3 pixels, which 1.47mm by 1.11mm (rounding)
And even this is influenced by rendering techniques but still shows that greater pixel density does not change FOV or viewed size. Unless you change the “size” of the screen.

Hmmm higher res might have a Positive effect on spotting objects early - clearer.
More pixel available and conjunction with smart scalling code.
Not sure but if the res is higher enlarges a bit more.Στάλθηκε από το MI 5 μου χρησιμοποιώντας Tapatalk

Disable zoom DF? i get your point and sure you flown with good pilots.
But for me DF is flying the numbers on energie level. After a while you know where the agressor is. You dont even have to look (zoom)
So i think its a lot of work just to give you a excuse that your lost in a DF
And for me having a high res 5940x1200 surround setup with 120FOV its still not as in rl.and for your info

Them I usually fly with (or against…depends on you point of view ) usually hear me cursing them in Italian.
For some reason Italian curses sound beautiful…especially in a DF
As for excuses…they never hear them from me.
I don’t mind getting kicked hard by skilled players.
I have no interest though in flying with those who have zoom manipulation in their tool box.
By the way…I would gladly fly with you the following scenario:
me at 500kts and you at 800kts in the merge at 14,000’.
You pull at 30°-40° up and I point down at full AB and go NOE somewhere.
If you find me within 20sec of the merge 2 out of 4 times I shall withdraw my request.
Statistically speaking, with that merge data, finding the NOE side should be more a matter of chance than of anything else, if no hard zoom is used. -

It does not enlarge the image.
How can it be clearer if there less then 1/2 dozen pixels in the image @ 5.6nm https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?36460-Multiplayer-zoom-feature-request&p=506842&viewfull=1#post506842
Have a look at the LODs for a SU-27 at 10,000m (30,000ft) what details do you see.
PS: I don’t remember if LOD distance was ft or meters ?

yup very realistic to put your nose 90dgr down with 500kts, full burner at 14000 at night.
You would scream and piss yourself while shouting mammie mammie mammie.
Looks like a RL scenerio, i would ditch zoom for that anytime. NOT

Lod distance is in feet.
Regardless of fov and distance from monitor.
Let’s assume scaling is equal on a low res and high res or no scaling.
For the same size of object drawn you have more pixels. Thus more detail. Thus when one on low res sees about one vertical wing the one with high res could see that the aircraft he sees had two vertical wings so it is either f15 or f14 or mig 29 or su. When the low res had a tone of aircraft to consider. Mainly as i recall you can spot easier the nose and where he’s pointing, crucial detail for df`s.Now i must find the graph of scale size and resolution, if i remember it correctly when distance was higher the object got slightly bigger, so again high res is a winner with more pixels and detail.
