Falcon BMS 4.34 U2 hosting issue
-
Explains it all… Thanks.
-
I hope this video will kill the urban legend that is spreading since this feature has been introduced
-
Wow! sorry Mav-jp. I didn’t know this feature change.

No problem amigo, i am more concerned when the urban legend is spread by BMS members LOL
I believe the changelog was not explicit enough , maybe we should do Video changelogs
From changelog
06\. Multiplayer fixes & improvements: ===================================== — Special protection for MP servers / hosts to enforce MP stability: (r19825) * Prevents any client entering 3D as long as the server is in 2D. * Prevents to re-enter 3D world if already been in 3D. When you leave 3d you will be asked to reboot. * Note: When committing, Host will be allowed to enter Ramp 1 minute before the first client's flight. * Note: This is independent of his own flights TO time or ramp start setting.
what is quite amusing (or dramatic depending on the POV) is that
-
people complain even before having tested it
-
they complain which means that ACTUALLY they didnt respect this mandatory rule of host beeing in 3D first in the past.
This reinforces the fact that this protection feature was deadly needed , and it will be even improved in 3 to 4 weeks

So is it only available when host selects RAMP?
Some of my MP mates wants to start from TAXI. I might enter RAMP 5 min before first package TO and have to finish RAMP quickly. Not so big a problem for me anyway…

works for taxi start as well
but your clients or wingmen can enter when they want ….

It is not a server running BMS, it’s me hosting a game on my computer.
This is a change in behaviour from previously and it didn’t matter if I clicked Ramp, Taxiway or Runway.
Before the update the host clicked on Takeoff, then the clients clicked on Takeoff. The fast clock indicated everyone had committed and everyone entered the 3D world when the computer was ready and not in any specified order. The host only had to be in the first flight.Does clicking on the OK to acknowledge the error popup allow a second connection attempt at the right time. Guess I will have to go find out.

sabre,
the new protection code has been written to exactly avoid what you are describing.
with the older procedure you could only rely on the host beeing in the first flight AND that his computer is faster than his wingmen to ensure that he was the first to enter 3D.
Come on guys, dont be more stubborn than what you are.
I have made a video to show you the process (have you watched it ?) , the only functional change that you have is that clients needs to put their clock X64 after the host has commited… that’s the ONLY change for users , i heard you , this already has been improved for next iteration so that users dont even have to “think” about putting their clock to X64.
All the rest is automatic and does not change the gameplay , except of course it protects the MP game

Thank you so much Mav-jp for the explanation and the video.
This was my first “connection test” flight for recruitment into the 185th with Sabre. I do totally understand why Sabre assumed it must be a bug. When you do things a certain way for long enough, it becomes ingrained as “the right way”, even if it is not “the best way”. I last flew Falcon back with the 1.08us patch, and I was painfully aware of “the Falcon dance”. We tried all sorts of methods to try and get a successful mission start - I don’t think there was “a right way” back then
The video makes it very clear, and it does sound like (in 3-4 weeks - is that related to the 3-4 weeks mentioned on the Falcon History Chart??) it will be even better again!
Thanks for all your efforts

Hi,
Repeated on two computers. Standard setup for hosting a friend.
Get message wating for server to commit to 3d world…
is this right? the clock runs slowly, previously it was committing and a fast clock during the join phase.Hoping for an answer and maybe a fix?

In light of the new changes, I would like to add something to the wishlist…
That is:
The Host automatically pulls connected players through when it has entered the 3D world, instead of requiring the client to click on Takeoff. My definitions of host and server for clarity.
Host = casual game where 1 player acts as the host for a number of friends.
Server = a computer dedicated to running BMS in server mode.
