This is what we got recently and I am loving it, much better than carrying a laptop around…
-
I’ve been sitting on the fence about getting a Kindle Fire, but if this works on it, I’m getting one! What a great idea!
It’s very handy. I have all the Falcon mauals and checklists on mine. Also RedDog’s online Korea map. This will be icing on the cake! Looks great Kosmo!

Now gotta find a way to strap the tablet on my leg…

It is working on the android Phone or android computer?

My trivial question is, are electronic kneeboards making their ways into the military cockpits?
Hm… Here they say “No” to the EFB:

But in the last sentence is mentioned, that the AMC will do so anyway?Would be interesting to read how it’ll end up finally for all military aviators.

I know there is a strong push to go all digital right now, but I don’t know if it has made its way to the fighter community yet. I’ll ask around and see what I can find out; a couple of my buddies still fly.

Thanks for the kind words everyone! It’s encouraging to see that people will find this useful

Not sure what you mean by Android computer, but it should work on any Android device.

Can a regular tablet be used to see PDF, DOC and other files? If so, what’s a good inexpensive one? Say a 10"er.
-
Kindle Fire can

Samsung Galaxy 10.1 … $399 My Sony Tablet S is the same price but Playstation certified. Most good android tablets are in the 399 range right now. eBay is a place to look.

USAF recently solicited to buy several thousand tablets for use as digital flight bag in cockpits of heavies, but not fighters AFAIK. USAF canceled the solicitation due to some intellectual property issues.
-
Cool i would pay for a good made app
-
For Falcon only…
I bought 2x7" tablets with Android 2.1 (No name China made) for 72 euros each…

Arty, do you have a link to what you bought? A 2"x7" screen seems like it would be much better than my 4" Samsung Galaxy S phone.

One of them…
In general u can search for wondermedia… mine is WM8650 (WM stands for Wondermedia) You will find tooooooo much… Even in U.S.A.
It’s a crappy touchscreen not capacitive and the battery drains like hell… But it’s superb for reading books quick web surf Forum reading - posting and FALCON flying… charts debriefing maps Hell… u name it…
With a bit more money u can get capacitive screen… Also u can run VNC and have instruments … my future goal is to use them as the 2 MFD’s when Lightnings program will be ready and working.

Also check out the the new KDE-based “Spark” tablet that’s coming, it’s a truly open platform and will display all sorts of ebooks, pdf’s and mostly whatever you throw at it nicely (it’s a full-blown Linux system under the hood):
IMHO it’s the perfect platform for simgeeks.
All the best, Uwe

Good news, Red Dog has not only given permission to add the charts, but has also jumped on board the project! His contribution will surely help take it to the next level.
BTW does anyone know if there are any good (and preferably free) iOS development tools for the PC (excluding Flash CS5)?
-
LOL… Kosmo …
Can I jump in?
Yes 2: Hype, Visual tool HTML5 based, peace of cake to create such things, like power point… works on every browser every platform and second phoneGAP…
Now Free is a matter…
Hype is not…
Phone GAP is but if u want it as an app or to integrate other stuff than u must have xcode which is paid… also gap is multiplatform. -
i write it again…i would pay for an useful application like that…but it will also able to show images from mfd and control them trough touchscreen?if yes i will buy a second tablet immediately…
