Okay, the probe looks really cool. What does “merged halves” mean?

hehe… most of the models you do first the half of it and then you do a symmetry that mirrors what you already have modelled and merge them together to what you see as a model some of us (like me for example) dont do that as much and struggle of keeping that symmetry by eye! lol now i learned though

Hello Parislord !
I wouldn’t have said better than what Manos said !

IMHO this one will turn into one of the most beautiful models of this title! Very well done!
@Radium, may I ask if along with this new frame design, we will finally have proper-individual dof’s/switches for controlling (opening/closing) each bay doors? If I am not mistaken the bay doors on this design are 4 in total? (left, right, center-bay-left, center-bay-right?)
Also, may I ask if it is possible sometime in the future to implement a similar dof’s/switch to control the JFS door, as found in Viper and other designs too? It would help increasing realism a lot…

I think for weapon bays theres already a dof #75 i think or 7x if i remember well i use it in P-3B i gave u and you can also find it in B-1 in game. Now for implement new dofs and switches i think first of all we have to see what the exporter can do and as Weavydave said there is a new one coming soon so the real and practical, IMO , question ,or better proposal, is not for Radium individually but to the whole BMS team to work on something like that and of course Dave to implement it in the exporter.
Just my 2 cents.EDIT: Dofs for weapon bay confirmed are 78-82

My dear friends,
I am very, very happy to announce the 3D mesh ready !
It was a very tough work, but after let’s say 20 hours of work on it this weekend, ready to go to the next phase !
For weapon bays, I have zero idea of how I will manage it. As Manos said we have a DOF for it, I will try to get the most out of it. Otherwise, I will explore other options.
I’m going now for dinner !
Have a good evening, or afternoon, and maybe morning !

Hello,
for those who are suspicious about J-20, this morning on Google Earth :
If you want to check it : 31°23’47.13"N 118°25’2.21"E.
Not so far from BMS map…
Cheers,
Radium

Just beautiful !

Very nicely done and very fast, you are very good!
-
Very cool! Does it have a gun?

Good question……well hidden if it does.

Hello,
I thought it would be quicker, but J-20 is very long to unwrap. I would say that 80% of my model is unwrapped, but I prefert to stop for today, as I feel that I would do mistakes if I go further, developpers will know what I’m talking about !
Here is a viewport direct screenshot of the first render to texture tests. I’m pretty happy of the result.
Stay tuned !
Cheers,
Radium

Wow.
What’s unwrapping mean to those of us (me) who literally know nothing about this sort of thing?

Hi !
It means :
From this :
Doing this :
By unwrapping all the parts of the model on a flat file :
In fact, unwrapping is the action to convert a 3D mesh into a 2D file to later do diffuse texture, ambiant occlusion and advanced overlays.

Maybe that white canopy part (the ejection rocket) needs a small position fine-tuning? (move a bit up)

Hello,
in fact, it’s just a little positonning mistake I committted when I made my screenshot.
When I unwrap stuff, I just attach everything together. Then, to make the screenshot, I just detached some elements a bit roughly, without carefuly checking their position.
In the final model, it will be corrected, because it’s already like on your picture in the source model.
Cheers,
Radiul

Whoah look at the detail in the nose of the model, that’s epic looking!!!
But it will be frighting to have to go up against a ‘stealth’ fighter in the F-16C … BVR won’t be possible?? This could change the Korea campaign quite a bit!
I look forward to the challenge! -
