Assign order of USB devices in Windows 10?
-
Is it possilbe to assign order of my specific USB devices in Windows 10 registry? For example Windows 10 enumerates my CH Fighterstick (or CH Manager Device 1 for that matter) as Joystick 2 (I have other input devices attached such as TM MFDs, Saitek Dash etc). So I’d like to reshuffle Joystick numbers of my input devices in Windows 10. Is it possible at all?
Thanks.
There are a couple utilities that can do this, and without them, it’s a matter of following a step-by-step procedure to unplug and re-plug in controllers until at the right order, which could again be wiped/overwritten in a number of ways - basically, if you NEED this, you might want to consider a utility software like “JoyID” or “devreorder”, and I think “JoyID” is likely easiest and exactly what you want.
Check out this article at The Air Tactical Assault Group forums about “JoyID”: https://theairtacticalassaultgroup.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13009

I’ve used JoyID, of course. Devreorder seems to be a deepr layer, interesting.
Thank you.

I shoud have asked about “order of USB joysticks in Windows10” not “devices”, of course.

If you need to re-order your devices for BMS purposes, there is a much easier way. Just edit the devicesorting.txt file in your BMS install.

Excellent suggestion, Gastone. I remember now I used to do that long ago already, am adding it to my notes. Btw is there any advantage of using this method with my HOTAS software over using Alternative Launcher you can think of?
Thanks.

Search for a post from “Cannon” , describing some advanced options for usb and namings handling.

Be aware that regardless of how you set the order in DeviceSorting.txt, if using Alt launcher it will reset the order back as soon as it starts…

Yes, that’s why I think modifying DeviceSorting.txt is redundant if using Alternative Launcher, I understand it’s one or the other. Unless there are some advantages of not using Alternative Launcher at all.
Thanks.

A lot of useful reference info explored by Cannon.

Make this file (and some others - i.e. axismapping.dat) ready-only and you are set until you exchange or add a device.
That way I’m now settled since years and without any mentionable issues.
