AGM-88 HARM Training Videos

Who wants to fly along as I do the HARM training TE twice? I can show you how I do DEAD.
The videos are in two parts as the the training module suggests - Part One is POS & HAS Part Two is HTS/HAD
Enjoy, and happy Weaseling

.35 with a detailed analysis of the newly implemented HTS/HAD? Heck yeah

****ing A. Well done bro.
Real Men do Iron Hand…first in , last out.
Just don’t do it with The Gorn.

Just wondering how you get the Harm TE to run with Display Extraction without hitting the RTT freeze bug. I used this TE to repro the bug as I 100% get a freeze on the Training TE latest after 2 minutes
-
sumptuously - beautiful
Tell me how to pull the MFD out to the edges of the screen? -
Thanks , I use display extraction and OBS - OBS reads my 2nd screen and puts overlay panels on the main capture base
-
this crashes/freezes for me in 4.35, did it twice back to back
no log file, had to CTRL-ALT-DELTE
John.

Nice flying Zipgun. Very well presented. Certainly helpful!
Extra points for not just telling people to “go read the manual”
-
Interesting, white HUD
Is there a reason you’re flying at mid-altitude vs. high altitude for increased standoff/survivability? At angels 28+ you’re increasing both survivability AND the missile’s range via pure physics. Also, you didn’t Loft the shot (same as lofting a 120 via loft que) to provide even greater stand-off capability. Your energy/mach was great though

This should be fixed in U1, available soon.

Thanks, but please go read the manual anyway – I can personally promise there is good stuff awaiting you there.

Thanks for the critique, I’m always open to improvement, especially when I’m presenting myself as some kind of expert (which I’m not).
During twilight conditions, I find that OBS records white better.
Yes, I do normally fly DEAD missions at or above FL270, but in this situation, I didn’t stress about the altitude and loft. Why? I knew, from the brief, I was against SA-2s and SA-4s which present an engagement range below 20 NM, so I was not overly concerned about stretching the range of the HARM.
If I’m going to expect to do a missile dodge (doing Iron Hand against SA-2s), I would prefer to do it in thick air, where the F-16 can easily outperform the SA-2 turn rate. I find the Viper to be too sluggish above FL250. Although I didn’t mention it in the video, along with choosing your visual angle and anticipated turn-plan, you want to enter the engagement as you would BFM –- in-the-pocket on corner speed.
If I’m going to anticipate a dive-for-the-deck with a steep slice-back defense, I will begin below FL200 and maintain a nose-down attitude as I approach the SAM. I would do this if I’m playing hot-dog against some SA-11s to practice running them dry (by dragging their missiles into the ground).
==========
I got another question on the YT channel: “Hey! How did you make sure you were staying out of reach of the SA4? (2nm) IIRC there is no distance in the HAD to be seen.”
To be clear, the SA-4 engagement is inside 20 NM not 2 - As Alexey said, there are blue range rings.
You can’t use the RWR to judge the distance on the ‘L’ (The Long Track is nonlethal so it is always outer ring), but if the ‘4’ is outer ring of the RWR - you are safe.

roger that - and different tactics based what time period you’re flying - 80-90s yep. Today if we went to war? not sure…I just have always wanted to be in a position of as much stand-off as possible given the technology available - and that tech was not available in the 80s 90s
Thank you for your contributions to the community!

re watched part 1, had another go, ok with the first one, 2nd one i missed my chance to lock window? and he got away at least 3 SAMs at me! …reviewing my acmi, it seems the HARM missed? :frusty:
please see and comment on video below…
John.

…right know where i went wrong, in 2nd HAS engagement i did not? wait for the RDY before firing, which caused a miss, on both my attempts.
again great vids, thanks for your time.

Today, I assume there will a test of the stealth theory - using F-35s for SEAD/DEAD with Growlers and MALDs for confusion-cover.

During debrief, a good indicator of a premature pickle (before the handoff gives RDY) will look similar to the 88 falling like a bomb – no post-launch climb.
I have to admit that I was a bit evil writing the TE for HAS against an SA-2 - since the EW radar (Spoon Rest) is 1) not in the HARM table and 2) you don’t have enough 88s to use the “SAM Two-step” dance (Kill the EW to force the FC to paint you at a non-engagement distance). This is a homage to the pilots of my generation that had the YGBSM response in the mission brief. Be ready, be confident in your ability, and have patience during the slow handoff - keep at it and soon you will enjoy the view of a missile fly-by.

Excellent videos Zipgun:thumb:. I’m checking in after a quite a while and I must say what an incredible job the BMS team have done in modelling the HARM, HTS and HAD. Pretty amazing developments.

Did you fly the F-16 aircraft before?
I started a new campaign. It’s difficult to do this in a campaign, and even more difficult in reality. But still it is possible to defeat the air defense. -

But still it is possible to defeat the air defense. You’re telling me…
And in Falcon we’re so lucky that we got some other birdies to have much fun when doing it.
With best regards.

How interesting all those…
By chance, I too - on my little own, of course - am currently doing some experiments about actual ECM/jamming functionality in 4.35.
So, thanks a lot for sharing your thoughts.
With best regards.
