Cougar Throttle Hall Effect Potentiometer - Cubpilot Reincarnated!

Any advance with this dead zone?
Thanks!
It’s been a while! I’m back in the seat again following a clean install and upgrade to Windows 10 and BMS 4.34. Also now have an uber graphics card fitted that’s allowing me to have everything enabled in the sim and video drivers. Boy is it sweet!
Anyway, the dead zone. Since the upgrades and reinstall… I haven’t noticed any deadzone. I am also now using TUSBA along with my throttle modification and it is running sweet! It was working ok before TUSBA too.
Why the TUSBA upgrade? Well it seems the TM calibration software just could calibrate the microstick on one of the axis. That’s now resolved with the TUSBA which is far superior. I have also removed the idle detent from the TQS. It’s just not required as I prefer to use the cockpit idle detent switch and have full throttle swing to idle on the TQS.
Also… just want to mention the “stiction”. I have none. Absolutely none. And that’s with the brake fully on too if I want. I am using a low friction tape around the shaft of the throttle. Also I have greased the contact point of the shaft and shaft bearings with silicon grease. It’s the tape that really makes all the difference. If anyone wants some tape… I have a huge roll and will be happy to post out to people. If you’re from outside the UK, all I ask is for you to cover the shipping cost.

is there any hope to remedy cup pilot’s hall sensor when it spikes? I am experiencing y-axis spike with the flight stick.

I wouldn’t know. I’ve not used cub pilot’s mod. Hall sensors should not spike as they work on contactless magnetic sensors. That was the whole point of these modifications. Perhaps your hall effect potentiometer is faulty. You could try to source a replacement. Search the part on google.

so it just broke after 10 yrs. Cup pilot is deceased so there is not hope to find another.

i did a HOTAS Cougar update & it seemed that the problem is somewhat gone, at least not as bad.

Can the factory friction pad be used for this mod?
-
you mean for sensors?
-
-
No the friction wheel with the rubber pad at the end.
I not sure what you mean by “with this mod”? This thread is about replacing the old potentiometer with a contactless Hall effect potentiometer. Nothing else is changed in the throttle quadrant. So the friction pad remains in place. I did mention about improving the “stiction” by using some low friction tape around the shaft of the throttle that places the tape between the shaft and the friction pad. It’s similar to the pads on a mouse that allow it to glide freely on your desk. It works amazingly well. Perhaps too well as when my throttle is near idle, it will slip back to idle if I don’t hold it. I have plenty of this tape left if anyone wants some. All I ask is for you to cover to postage cost.

If anyone know the answer please let me know, Q: If the flight stick appears to be spiking along both X & Y but can go back to back zero by a tab on the stick would that mean the gimbals are faulty or the hall sensor reached it’s life span? I have Ian Johnson’s gimbals mod and that makes the stick vibrate for a while if you displace it because the spring are very soft. But every time I want to commit to flight I need to zero the stick & the rudders in setup. What is going on exactly, is there a mod that will not need zeroing in every instance?

Pots could be going bad. I replaced mine with Vipergear hall sensors.

Best if you start a new thread. This one is for the throttle not the stick. ???*️

but the one I have is a hall sensors not pots, could that go bad too you think?

All things fail given time. As I said before, if you want more help on this, raise a new thread. That way, more people will see your plight directly from your subject.

not a plight just a question

@jumpstart5179 Vilpergear continues sale the hall sensor? i send one email and dont have reply yet.
I need change my pots to hall sensors too.
thanks

@gusva They do to the best of my knowledge. From what I understand there are two guys who make up Vipergear and they have their hands full. I would check the site and see if it is in stock. If not look at my Super Cougar write it has a parts there and you can find the sensor from a gentleman on a DCS forum who makes them as well.
Check this link it will give you a list of parts I have used:

No response on my email request too either from vipergear nor from DCS guy so far since a bit more than a week.
My throttle is cracking and I don’t like to clean the potentiometer.
Now I’m waiting for an answer…
It’s like 3 - 4 weeks 🤭 -
Six years on and this is still running perfectly.

@gusva I got an answer from the DCS forum guy regarding his cougar throttle mods.
Maybe an option for you.
Link to DCS forum was flagged as spam.
Try to google it with cougar throttle hall sensor.
