Is there new tool to replace LODeditor?
-
You measure a .lod with LE then put the values in Parent.dat with text editor…
so i still need LE
Just an advice here
If you want to become falcon développer and it seems you want because you are willing do modify it then there are two ways
- you listen to the most active and efficients devs around (BMS team) and you use proper tools
it is interesting u mension “efficient”. as those func i mension before, the way LE do it (find sth, change it, save) is much faster than 3ddb+BMSeditor+MC+3Dmax.
the difference between u and me is i m not a developer, more like a tweaker, i don’t focus on one model and pay all energy on it. sometime i tweak F-4, another time i tweak T-72.
it is just like car manufacturer and car mechanic, the tool the way manufacturer feel efficient, is not the tool the way mechanic feels good. -

Nope, you don’t “need” it. You can use it (as any other 3D software like Blender or 3DSMax) allowing to measure the size of the model or BMS Editor, less practical (for the moment) , but you can with a bit of imagination.

It was much faster. Now it can’t be used anymore. LE is dead for working on main 3DDB (but still working on a single .lod from a Parent folder Id in extracted 3DDB), and there is nothing we can do as we don’t have the source code.

H@Gear5:
it is no matter i like it or not. LE HAS those functions and MC do not.
this is why i ask for new tools to replace LE.
if MC can do that i will very appreciate it.This conversation is pointless. LE cannot update >2gb KoreaObj.LOD so it is obsolete for me. I’ve moved on.

good luck

Well, as I recall there was a LODEditor replacement in the works a few years back. It was discontinued on the advice of the team, as I recall - it wasnt needed.

A “dark” memory from a few years ago…
I always struggeld using the LOD Editor on older versions, something went everytime wrong.
I saved the position of the discussion, cause it was treated in the endless Jan Has Thread, post 1002 and earlier.
Hopefully not outdated meanwhile? -
You missed the update function which is way faster if you don’t work with extracted 3DDB, and you might as well point to my manual which you took that from rather than just posting part of it.
The way I see it (from memories) when you would want the easy way…
- create model with 3ds max (2013 or 2014 if Dave exporter hasn’t been updated)
- export to LOD
- Create parent.dat from max with maxscript
- Create a Parents folder in the root of your falcon install and copy exe dll there as well.
- Copy the lod(s) and parent.dat in a subfolder named as parent number needing update (4 digits)
- Use the update function. Check the manual found here. Btw, the archive linked there was in my drive bin, I just restored it.
To Pack/Unpack 3DDB, use 3DDB.exe (new format)
- EXTRACT THE 3DDB
Copy both EXE and DLL from <installdir>\Tools\3DDBBuilder to <installdir>\Data\TerrData\Objects.
Shift+Right click on <installdir>\Data\TerrData\Objects, select open command prompt window here and use the following command:Windows PowerShell command: .\3ddb_builder.exe /extract
CMD command: 3ddb_builder.exe /extract
The tools will create three folders: LODs, Parents and Textures.
LODs contains all common models used by several parents.
Parents contains all the parents and their models used by the 3D database.
Textures is an empty folder. If you need to build the 3DDB, it is in this folder you will need to put a placeholder BMP. You can find more information about that further in this documentation.
- BUILD THE 3DDB Copy both EXE and DLL from <installdir>\Tools\3DDBBuilder to where your extracted 3D database is located.
In the Textures folder, you must have a 256 colours BMP file named as the highest texture number found in <installdir>\Data\TerrData\Objects\KoreaObj. Resolution nor colour does matter, so one pixel will do just fine. This will write in HDR the last texture id.NEW > 2 GB FORMAT
THIS FORMAT IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH LEGACY TOOLS SUCH AS LOD EDITOR. PLEASE USE THE OLD FORMAT IF YOU WISH TO USE THEM.
Shift+Right click on <installdir>\Data\TerrData\Objects, select open command prompt window here and use the following command:Windows PowerShell command: .\3ddb_builder.exe /build
CMD command: 3ddb_builder.exe /build</installdir></installdir></installdir></installdir></installdir></installdir>

Hi buddy!!!
… well … I am not 100% sure that the “updated” is/will still work. And it increases the size of the 3DDB each time.
And honestly, on my SSD, it take me 20s to rebuild an entire 3DDB. -
Hello there
Post above edited. I don’t see any reason why it wouldn’t work anymore and I think it can be handy in some situations. I used to send Radium the svn updates between builds back in the days using the 3ddb update thingy so he could work with latest stuff.
