BMS freinds:
I just got my warthog joystick and throttle today
got lost in all the info available, some old…started entering each button…need steps to setup WartHog Hotas for BMS please and thank you
you guys have been great so far, and sorry I’m just not familiar with Blogs and Forums, please forgive my ignorance
Thank you,
Dan -
forgot to mention I have IR Tracking so some view features will be handled by that instead of buttons to look around

There are several setups available plus eventually you’re going to adjust whatever you acquire to your own needs and desires. First step is to decide if TARGET is being used or not. Life is simpler without but certain programmed actions are not possible.
-
I agree with Frederf and would recommend against using TARGET for the sake of system simplicity.
Try Kolbe’s excellent key file editor spreadsheet (works fine in libreoffice) to generate a default keyfile for your stick & throttle as 2 separate DX devices and take it from there. AFAIK the default layout won’t bother to waste the POV hat for moving the view.
All the best, Uwe

I ditched the target software and did it all with the alternate launcher.
I first tried to mirror the actual F-16 HOTAS as close as possible. Then I added stuff that I needed frequently, or buttons I didn’t want to search for in the cockpit in the heat of the action.
These are my current settings:

If you want to get into writing your own keyfile in DX for your Warthog, here’s the guide:
http://www.blu3wolf.com/falconbms/Kolbe/Falcon BMS Keyfile Manual.pdf -
For a quck start you can follow and use the warthog keyfile that is alreaey provided with BMS in Falcon BMS 4.35\Docs\01 Input Devices\03 HOTAS Setup\TM Warthog
-
I always go into BMS Setup and just assign the buttons there - then Save the Setup. The only tricky one is getting Trigger Detent 1 and 2 assigned properly. You about need three hands, and you have to cuss just right…but it can be done.
-
This is a bit old but if you have not already please take a look at the Alternative launcher for BMS:
https://github.com/chihirobelmo/FalconBMS-Alternative-Launcher/releases
For many reasons, not just HOTAS setup, this is a must have for BMS. Now for the Warthog itself, using the AL, I easily setup the idle cutoffs, using the mechanical detent DX buttons and the press/release function as just one example.

Thank you,
DanI am an Alternative Launcher fanboy also, just makes life MUCH easier… I’ll add that if you fly other sims like IL2 or DCS there is a Target Profile that gives every switch\hat\button position on your Throttle it’s own DX#. In BMS you simply use the “Release” function in AL, for sims like DCS\IL2 you run the profile, simply assign a position to an action, done. One click stops it and it is back to BMS DX1-32…

Is the alternative launcher working well for BMS 4.35 update 2? Can it make the coolie hat (left index finger POV 2) usable in the Warthog throttle?

Works fine in AL for me, its Joy2 POV U\D\L\R… can assign it to any function.
