Can this make sloped runways work?
Or is it still a 3d object just not rendered texture?Cheers
-
No MAX,
ALL 3D Object’s\Feature’s are still there on the “OBJECTIVE” except THAT the First Runway’s texture’s (the one’s you see OTW) are rendered on the TILE instead of through the “MODEL”……get it???
Guess I’m having a hard time explaining…:(
Try me in TS,maybe that would be better…demer

Yeh, I re-read your posts a couple times more and it slowly went in to the small brain.
I’ll try one more time(can’t be on ts right now), the pro is that the runway we see won’t be divided into texture segments that may not always “fit” to one other? We get a “complete” runway texture.Cheers

No, if you know to DO IT, DO IT!

I’ve already “DONE” it already, don’t really care,at this point,…… if you guy’s want to spend the next 9-16 month’s trying to fit your Custom runway feature’s texture’s in LODEdit…so be it.
Not needed to do all that work.demer

Dave,
my comment was a parody of old professor’s educational skills. I hope this is clear now. -
Sorry but I can’t leave the sloped runway thought just yet. I may be mistaken here but when there were leveling issues at airbases it seemed like the aircraft had contact with ground and the runway 3d object was floating making it look like your gears were under ground, if that’s true, could it not be possible then?
Cheers

NP M8, as soon as I figure out what I’m doing, I’ll try to pass that along……@mAXpOWER:

Max, we are 'kinda screwed in BMS when it come’s to precise elevation data edit’s. This is due to the fact that BMS use’s the L2 file for elevation’s,instead of the L0 file.We may get to use a more undulating mesh under the tile and see how that goe’s.The fact that I’m not using a Runway L0 Feature on the objective may get us there.BUT I have noticed that Mav’s “roll forward” is gone ATM. i.e. Your jet is stationary when you spawn, just like the old day’s.
Oh well,more to do……demer

Thanks Dave! -
It’s been a week or so,testing different approach’s, to where I would like to be with this,as a POC for Guam (i.e. Future Falcon). I have tried to simplify the process in PS, as much as I can (I REALLY suck with this tool… Plug-In What???…LOL!!!), for the “ARTIST’s” in the community who may want to pursue it.
A little tour of AAFB,Guam for BMS.Remember, the texture’s you are seeing are NOT being drawn through the Feature, they are on the TILE itself.I won’t go into how I achieve the PHData or PointData on the tile\Objective\yes there is a feature there!?!?!Bullshite ATM.That will come later.
Enuff, trying to explain my insanity…!!!First shot, you are all familier with, though this is where we Rotate,my AI wingy is a bit late…LOL…****'n “Script Monkey”…PSSST,those flashing light’s across the runway are trying to tell you something…LOL
next two shot’s……
A low pass…just to see…what we can see…
Cheer’s,

I believe with this technik Kimpo and heavy 3d airbases will be a joy for FPS. right? Nice touch.
-
A very nice and above all a very interesting stuff, Dave.
My lips are hanging on each of your words, … theater related.
Cheers,

kimpo is not fps heavy because of the runways, but because of everything else… i’m afraid demer’s workaround is going to be limited to 2d surfaces only, like runways taxiways and whatnot - not for the 3d objects like hangars etc.

Runways are 3d too so they have their share… maybe small but when the hardware is in it’s limits than it’s considerable. If u have a large runway like Kimpo than u have a huge 3d object. Cut off the runway from Kimpo put it in game and test it I’m sure the difference will be noticable… even 1-5fps where users struggle to 20-25 will be fine for them. Demers approach is correct u have the tile underneath why draw on top of it? If u want more detail create the 3d runway with it’s superb skin and than make it a tile and place it to falcon’s terrain. The downside of it is u reach more to the 4096 DDS limit. So Demer back to u…
-
Nice point Arty, but given my recent experiences in IT and online, I think the main FPS killas are objects (3d) and textures. And traffic, of course.
Cheers

Unless the Airbase is sitting on generic terrain tiles (which looks really bad!) there is nowadays custom HABxxxxx tile, which adds to tile count anyway.
I am also little in doubt that saving on GPU by not displaying few flat polygons from taxiways and runways can have any serious bearing on performance. But hey , you never know .
Perhaps, this can lead to possibility of creating new and entirely custom airbases and being able to add them to those existing Korean specific and generic. Or to end up eventually with utility like AFCAD is for MSFS. That would be really great.

For better fps, just off Shaders.
If I may, two cents …
Moort well said, that other objects absorb fps. The trick is to make the appropriate LOD distance, not only texture.Regards,
Eghi -
Yeap but on this case it’s the first most detailed heavier LOD so what can u do? As soon as the wheels are off the runway u see fps jump.
