Hall sensor mod for Cougar Throttle
-
I have been trying to reach CubPilot but so far he has not responded to e-mails or pm’s. Does anyone know of anyone else selling the hall sensor kit for the Cougar throttle?

So, was this verified to work with the Cougar? It looked like they were trying to use it for the TQS.

Thanks Mapi, I’ll check out the link.

We are working on the hall sensor for the PIT TQS.
The version we have found , we will test, but the shaft of it is 6 mm. (easy to modd for a pit, but takes a bit more tor the cougar base and stick)Cuppilot is not responding anymore, and the hallsensor form him , there is no number on, so I dont know where to find them.
But im sure is we all look and call different companies we will source them out soon.
I have one incoming from USA to test for the pit tqs.

I am using Novotechnic Hall sensors in my Rudder pedals. One for the rudder axis and one each for the toe brakes.I will post up the part numbers as soon as I find the data sheets. They have worked flawlesly for the last 4 years. The only problem with them is cost.As I recall the were about $175.00 each.I ordered them through A4 Tech and delivery was about 2 weeks to Canada.
Cheers: Dave

Good news!
Here is the info that I received from Ian:
The Sensors are Midori QP-2HC. Now to track them down!
Thanks for the info. Hopefull we can soon source out the parts. Speaking of which, I sent out an e-mail to Ian to see if he had any parts information for the HS mod. If I hear anything back I will pass it along.
Does anyone know what hall sensors are in the Warthog?
@Kukki, I am looking forward to hearing about your test.
@Dave, It would be well worth the price to have my cougar back in operation.

I have found several different Hall Sensors thru this thread. Are they good a replacement for the original part and are there mods you have to do to get them to work?
-
I’m also interested on this! Any news?

Guys,
I’m thinking about modding my Cougar throttle with a hall sensor. I’ve been looking at a sensor and as far as i can tell I think the one in the link below may be suitable.

I was wondering if anyone who knows a bit about modding the Cougar throttle with a Hall sensor has any idea as to whether or not this sensor would be suitable?
Thanks,
-
I am interested too, but 80$ for this??!!
-
Yes that seems to be about the going rate. The Midori one’s which were mentioned earlier in this thread were a similar price but the supplied specified a minimium order of 2 units! The issue seems to be the size of the sensor, larger sensors cost less money, the smaller you go, the more they cost. Given the space inside the throttle base, we need something reasonably small and I think the Vishay sensor would fit nicely, would just need to make some modifications to mount it.

Hi guys,
Talking about low cost…. You can do exactly the same with much less money…check these web links…
Essentially you achieve the same effect of the $80 sensor but with much less…. Unfortunately, you have to buy 10 magnets so you have to figure out what to do with the other 9…
Cheers!!!

Hi pistolero992000
I’ve heard of people doing home made modifications using these magnets for the Cougar stick but not for the throttle. How would this work?
-
Has anyone found a pot replacements for the antenna and range knobs on the Cougar TQS?
Ive ordered the magnet and A1302 Hall Effect Transducer device so that I can replace the throttle axis pot.
-
Would this work??
-
Not sure if the dimensions are close enough to TE antenna and range pots to fit into the TQS handle.
Plus it lacks the push in switch on the range knob

Could u please give some more info how to make this work inside the throttle? there was a thread with a pencil trick how to put them together IIRC by a french guy? but I can’t find it.
My throttle starts to have a light spike so I must find a (pistolero way) solution before it gets annoying.Just to let u know your pressure sensors solution still works great… most of the time I have trouble with the axis center play and not with your solution…

Hall Effect installation for the TQS - throttle axis pot replacement.
–----
1. Glue magnet using super glue just above throttle centre line
2. Position hall sensor about 2mm away from magnet, nice and square
3. Make sure throttle arm is in centre position and using Cougar viewer software position the sensor so that the value on the throttle axis viewer is centered. You have to do this quickly before the superglue sets. If it does you can always crack it off and try again, the more glue the longer it takes to set making adjustment easier.
4. You may notice that you don’t have full range of movement across the throttle axis according to the viewer software. To fix this, go into the Cougar Control Panel axis shaping tab and select the throttle axis. ‘Set to zero’ to curve and then do a full manual calibration. You should now find you have full range across the throttle axis and a hall sensing throttle for next to nothing!
