Virpil, advice please.
-
Hello Forum
Currently, I use the Saitek X52 Pro and am considering changing to a new system.
I’m thinking of buying the Virpil CM2 Throttle and the Alpha Grip with the Virpil base.
The Alpha grip is more space sim, but I like it’s shape and the range of buttons etc.
My questions (1) As advised, I use DX to programme my HOTAS.
Am I therefore limited to 32 bindings or can the throttle and grip be regarded as two items, thus allowing 64 bindings?
Question (2) any other comments on Virpil?
Thanks,
Bayonet.

Hi Bayonet,
I have the CM2 throttle and use it together with a non-Virpil stick. As for the 32 binding limit, that is a per-device limit. But that is not something to worry about for the CM2 throttle. Virpil software allows you to “split” it into several virtual devices of up to 32 bindings.
In the case of the CM2 throttle, it has about 70 DX bindings across rotaries, buttons, hats and so on. Having split the throttle, in Alternative Launcher key mapping I see three columns for the throttle, representing the split into 3 virtual devices. One of 32, another of 32 and the last one with the remainder bindings.

Excellent jayb
That’s what I was hoping to hear.
Is the Virpil software easy to use?
With some systems, one needs a degree in engineering and coding.Bayonet.

Another solution that works for any more than 32 button device is to use the combination of JoystickGremlin and vJoy to
1. create multiple virtual devices with vJoy
2. Remap physical inputs with JoystickGremlin to the virtual devices created with #1 -
Bayonet,
I watched some videos by this guy which made getting started a whole lot easier:
. There’s also this list of very elaborate videos for basic to more advanced stuff: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL2kRNYjsz2IDZWueRjHKHMqHvpYJnA8wDVPC software is not a simple tool, but a nice thing is that all settings are stored in firmware on the device. So no need to load additional software to use the throttle. That said, Joystick Gremlin will give you some options that the VPC software does not, like macros.

Another option (my current setup), if you fly other sims besides BMS, to the minimum €730 VirPil Hotas with the F-18 grip. If you want the F-16 grip you can get the Virpil WarBrd stick base (€190), then a TM Warthog Throttle (€240). and the TM f16 stick (€160) for a total of €590 here. You set the PID/VID of the JStick to match the original TM Warthog and your system and the TARGET software see it as a standard Warthog. Then you simply run the 128 DX TARGET profile (it only targets the throttle) and every switch\hat\button position is seen as a DX press. Unfortunately BMS does not currently see DX33-128 so no matter what the solution you would need to use Oak’s suggestion of VJoy\Joystick Gremlin to create multiple 32DX devices for BMS, or whatever VirPil’s solution is. For BMS I simply disable the TARGET profile and Alt Launcher has all my switches set for press\release so it is not an issue. The cost is only slightly more than a stock Warthog HOTAS and the VirPil stick base is exponentially better… and if you want sell the OEM Warthog stick base over on the Cougar forum to save another €50.
Edit: Sorry Bayonet, I see you have already purchased your gear!
