Fields of View (FOVs) Acting "Opposite" to What I Set
-
Not sure why, but also make sure to change max fov value.
-
Default has to be between min and max. If not it probably gets set to some fallback value.
-
For my triple screens I use
set g_fDefaultFOV 120
set g_fMaximumFOV 160to get this, and I can zoom in\out with the mouse to adjust… Just play around with the settings until you get exactly what you want.
-
So it seems my Logitech Attack 3 is the culprit. When it’s not plugged in, I can adjust the FOVs through the config tool without wondering what kind of view I’ll be greeted with in-game.
(I’ve gone so far as to re-install both the stick’s drivers, and BMS 4.35 with no change.)
Flying with keyboard: :juggle:
// *** Use these when flying with k'board. set g_fDefaultFOV 73 set g_fMaximumFOV 85
Plugged in, I had to try out a lot of different values in the bms.cfg, settling with the following for the Default:
// *** Use these with Thrustmaster plugged in. set g_fDefaultFOV 13 // Lower number = higher FOV
I have a proper Thrustmaster Cougar set in storage …. here’s hoping it wont cause the same issue.
-
Super weird … can you give more context? Are you assigning FOV to an axis, or are you using the FOVIncrease/FOVDecrease command callbacks? Or TrackIR z-axis (head position)?
I wouldn’t expect g_fDefaultFOV to have any meaning, if FOV is assigned to a DX device axis.
-
How are you assigning keystokes/axis to the Logitech? I would use Alt Launcher and do it manually if you already aren’t as it sounds like it is being assigned incorrectly…. and is your mouse wheel being used for view zoom in/out?
-
Hi, Icer, airtex2019. I appreciate yours and everyone else’s help with this. :headb:
I set the FOVs either through the config tool patcher (launched from the Falcon BMS Hub/ Alt Launcher) or directly in my falcon bms.cfg, which is what I have to resort to when I plug in my stick. I’m not assigning FOVs to any stick axis, to only the mousewheel (with “inverted” checked).
I’m using the FOVIncrease/FOVDecrease callbacks.
I make all changes to keystrokes/axes through with the KeyMapping tab in the Alt Launcher.
I do use the mouse wheel to zoom in/out. (Keyboard zoom in/out/reset are disabled with the stick plugged in.)
///////////////////////// // Config.exe Settings // ///////////////////////// // *** Use these with Thrustmaster Attack 3 plugged in. set g_fFOVIncrement 4 // Sets how much the field of view should change for each keypress in degrees set g_fDefaultFOV 14 // Lower number = higher FOV (with joystick plugged in) //set g_fMaximumFOV 73 // Limits the maximum amount that the FOV can be increased // *** Use these when flying with k'board. //set g_fDefaultFOV 73 //set g_fMaximumFOV 85 // Limits the maximum amount that the FOV can be increased
-
the mousewheel (with “inverted” checked)
Well, I’m as confused as you, why the joystick would affect keybd/mouse bindings … but it’s starting to sound like there might be a bug.
I think the right next step, is to try to reproduce this weirdness with just BMS (no Alt Launcher). (ie. is it a BMS bug or an AL bug?)
-
Using just the Falcon BMS.exe I get the same results, with and without the joystick plugged in.
Also, I tried out my TM Cougar, and same issues.
-
Icer, Great looking rig ! what is the flight stick you use ?
-
Does AL modify the axismapping.dat or joystick.cal files? (I’m not sure.)
I would try deleting those (move them / make a backup copy somewhere) and then run ‘Falcon BMS.exe’ without AL.
Sorry it’s not a solution, just trying to understand what exactly is causing the problem… sounds like it’s related to mousewheel+inverted, but seems very strange for it to be affected by presence/absence of a joystick.

Yes AL is modifying those files

Thank you, It is a Warthog stick on a VirPil WarBrd base…

Backed-up both of those files, deleting the originals, and launching BMS directly with Falcon BMS.exe: I’m afraid there was no change, meaning the Fields of View work as they should (high number = high FOV) without a stick plugged in; plugging one in, the Fields of View settings are reversed (high number = lower FOV/ zoomed in on HUD).

Can you screenshot your Setup / Controllers / Advanced / View-Control page?

Hi Crassus, it seems this FoV is really messed, I wouldn’t be surprised if there are bugs in it. I have made some changes to it in the past because of that (for instance, look closer was not working) and there are some changes in U3 as well, but I’m not sure this is related to your problem.
Do you have any axis on your HOTAS mapped to FoV?
Anyway, to have FoV working correctly here, what I do is to have default view set to 80, maximum FoV set to 140 and in game, setup advanced, I assign mouse wheel to FoV. I don’t know why, if I don’t do that, mouse wheel still changes FoV but works differently.

https://i.ibb.co/0Vm7bHs/bms435-in-game-setup-advanced.jpgNot sure why, I do NOT have FOV set to my mouse Axis in AL…. but it works.

Can you try just leaving FOV set to ‘keyboard’ (the default) … the mousewheel will still control FOV as well … it seems to be a hardcoded default for mousewheel.
I’ve seen some weirdness in the Setup screen wrt to selecting mousewheel, as an “axis”.
But not sure if “reverse” will apply in that case.
