Warbrd and TM F16 Grip
-
I have a new Warbrd delivered (apparently - I can’t access it for two weeks) which I plan to use with my F16 grip. Are there any tips and tricks I should look out for from an actual user?
I would still like to be able to use TARGET (generally only for other sims with less capable HOTAS controls) with my other TM systems.
Useful information I’ve found but can’t talk about from experience:
Buying
Most seem to buy the extra heavy springs for the Warbrd base.
The mounting plate should help when the extra heavy springs are used (which may need too much force for the simple base plate to be stable).Firmware and Software
You could also see
TARGET (it seems a possibility):

That’s what I currently use (with a TARGET DX128 script to assign all switch locations but only on the Throttle and only for IL2 and DCS as BMS will not see above DX32). For BMS I don’t need anything “extra” for the stick and throttle that Alt Launcher can’t easily provide.
Springs - I came from a CH HOTAS and the stock springs were fine, I believe it came with an assortment but they are in the box they came in.
Mounting - remove the two screws (as shown on the directions for mounting a TM stick) holding the wiring harness and just screw the stick onto the base normally
The software you will use at this point is the “VPC Configuration Tool”, and you will rename the Stick and change the PID\VID to match the TM, at which point the TARGET software will see it as a standard Warthog Stick… -
Thanks Icer. All working now. Working in Target too (at least it is recognized as connected - I haven’t tried creating any profiles yet - that would mainly be for older sims…well, older than BMS4.3X!
I switched out the standard springs to heavy and the base will lift when almost at the extremes. I’ll install it into mounts in the next month, try it and then see if I move to the extra heavy springs.
Phew, a bit of an effort researching, changing springs etc, all the way to holding your breath while loading firmware!

I’m running soft center avia cams. I thought I’d like the soft center and even bought soft center Cosmo cams.
I’m not so sure I do though.
Icer, do you run soft center or no center?

Stock is the soft center avia cams and standard springs. I changed out to the heavy springs but left the cams.
I haven’t had any time in bms, but will have to try. It is the gentle …‘flat’(?)… when moving from left to right or forward to back I’m thinking about. The no center cams would remove that I think. It’s just whether I want to take it apart again to try. I’ll try it as it currently is for a while.

My (Stock OEM soft center cams/springs) setup does center itself but passes through center perfectly smoothly with 0 “notchiness”, if that helps describe it… Moving in any axis you feel no center point at all.

I too am using the stock center cam and springs with a WH grip (identical to the F16 one, iirc) and a 7cm extension and find it very comfortable. It is very light to the touch, maybe one day I’ll try it without the extension, but it is really nice to have if you also fly helos in between…
