4.35 U3 Rants, feedback, comments

@seifer We believe that several new pieces of news were gathered in a very short time and the community is still digesting them, it is like a child with a new toy and does not know which one to play with. We must wait a little longer to have a correct comment on the forum itself and in the case of the U3, we believe that it is quite well polished and well worked, bugs will always exist, each system of our personal computers makes an infinite variety of configurations where our simulator has to run, so for a community of enthusiasts who with pure heart and investing time and dedication many times family time out some bugs, in our opinion it is more than justified and it will never be little to reaffirm how grateful we are our Virtual Combat Wing in this magnificent gem of programming and simulation.
Greetings

The lighting looks bright and juicy, I personally really like it. Thanks to the developers.
-
@spbgoro glad you liked!
-
@viper-0 Thanks for the kind words, hope you enjoy U3

@obi1 I cannot see your sig here, can you post system specs? Falcon is still heavily CPU driven, and that is the part we optimized most. But I need to understand what kind of system you have so I can try to mimic with testers.

I am wondering about the weather and clouds, specifically in situations like the ILS_Weather training mission.
I forget when it started, perhaps it was when 4.35 was first released, but there were strange issues with the ground appearing through the clouds. Also some strange flickering.
In the release notes for 4.35 U3, there is a mention of some of this (or at least issues that sound like this) being fixed.
I hadn’t flown the ILS_Weather mission in a long time, but I gave it a shot last night, after installing U3. I think the problem of the runway lights being visible through the low clouds (on final approach) has been fixed. But the other issues, at higher altitudes, still seem to be present. Odd visibility of ridgelines, buildings, windmills being partially visible through the clouds.
I recorded my training mission, here’s a point where some of this is visible:
There are a few other points in that video where I go heads-up and this graphical behavior can be seen.
I was a little surprised that this was still occurring, although maybe the release notes only referred to the issues with the runway lights on final. Maybe these other graphical oddities are a different issue that will be sorted out later.

@zeus_ I actually heard comments like: what, U3 was launched? 3 times already. So yes, maybe we can do something about this.

@wurminatorza kids are the best, here is my daughter beta testing U3
-
@mylonite470 yup, definitely still broken, something I have been working on lately. Known issue and thanks for reporting.

@awmk1 MavJP has indeed added a fix where ships stop firing at 2d units. Maybe your case is different? Just so I understand, the problem is that ships are firing missiles like crazy upon entering 3d world?

@airtex2019 thanks Airtex, you have always been a very helpful partner!

@ionfreefly welcome aboard!

The problem with older CPUs is not just that they’re slower / have fewer cores … they lack some of the newer instruction-set which is optimized for 3D graphics calculations. (Not sure if that’s the case here… @Seifer is there any special cfg setting people with older-gen chips should use?)
My only constructive advice … be sure to disable the various “shadow mapping” config options … I found that has a pretty big CPU impact, with the 4.35.x engine.

Thank you for all the good work!
The forum is a great improvement but testing out 4.35U3 will have to wait to next week, as I’m in holliday relaxing in the sun. -

Shadow mapping makes a huge difference indeed. Same as environment mapping, which is even worse.
Regarding the CPU, we are indeed using newer instructions set, I don’ t know exactly what happens to old CPU there. One option is to try to disable the optimizations and see if they help old hardware. In 3d, open chat window and type:
.cpuperf none
But I guess it will not help much in this case. I will see if I can get my hands on similar hardware.

- Users have not migrated to new forum: this one is harder to understand, since if users are not here anymore, we will not have their feedback;
It’s very easy to understand. My first reaction was that I probably got banned for inactivity, when I couldn’t log in and wasn’t gonna bother, since the updates are now public. I was kinda surprised that password reset worked. Maybe add a disclaimer on relevant login pages that “all passwords from old forum are expired and need to be reset” in bold. Cause I imagine a lot of people just left the page the moment their password didn’t go through.

First of all,
Thank you for U3 and all hard work done so far.
I like the new colors,
It looks like that the clouds are fading to soon (just before entering into them) and thus I miss the sence of speed.
and definetely i dont want my CTDs backThanksgiving feedback
No changes in this area in U3 , however it has been improved for the future already

@seifer if you keep updating your daughter as you update 4.35, she will be a beautiful AND stable grown-up. Not sure what that could mean, but that’s certainly good.
Give me more time, I’ll tell you how badly I like it.
-
@airtex2019 thanks Airtex that’s indeed the system setup. I will update it into my signature later. Don’t worry bout my bms settings. Like I said it’s been tune for performance so already had those shadows settings disabled.
My whole point of discussion is actually that I think it’s strange that I expected to be an performance improvement that we went to dx11 but in practise it’s slower then dx9 and older bms versions. My system runs 4.33 really good and 4.34 also when using more scaled down settings. 4.35 is again a big step slower.
It is just that I expected dx11 to be quicker but maybe all other added features on top of it in the end made the final result slower than older bms versions.
@Seifer I will check that performance optimise test later when I have some time to properly test it. -
Thanks for the update BMS team - haven’t really had a chance to fully explore it yet.
For me, overwriting config files is a big no-no, there are ways and means to avoid this, from informing the user (I know you said this was an omission) to putting installers in place to update/merge or even changing the name of the original before installing the new one.
People expected more of this release: totally valid.
This does not exactly explain what I feel, it’s more about the conflicting feedback, is it U3 we’re supposed to be excited about, or is it 4.36 - the various outlets (Discords etc.) contain enticing titbits but never the release it might be in (understandable, but confusing and frustrating).
Finally, most of the changes are MP so meh!
