The only thing I am not sure of now is if the refuel must be on the way to the target and from…
If you skip the planned AA Refuel, the only effect is in your TOT, that will result in advance, as you assign a time to spend in refuel. Of course, in some mission like ( i.e. CAS or CAP ), you don’t need to plan AA refuel but a good Joker/Bingo status and notice the tanker’s opening time.
-
@alfred Usually the tanker has a 5 hour refueling window so that should not be a problem. If you are flight lead you can choose to do so no problem since your flight does what you want them to do. So any time you check in with the tanker they follow.
If you are flying as #2 (or #3 or 4) with an AI flight lead, your flight lead might not consider refueling outside the given steerpoint sequence.

thank very much you for the responses. How can we make the element refuel before the wingman, say for example the wingman is half empty but the element is bingo. I was thinking rejoin call to the wingman

why does it say “unable” sometimes? even though it was the start of it’s mission
If it was a TE, it is usually because the tanker isn’t at its patrol steerpoints/TOT for the tanker track yet.

If your element and/or wingman are AI, the refuel sequence doesn’t allow the swap among flight ship. When I get other members running on vapor, I use to call the tanker for refuel and, once received the clerance, call again for “done refuel”. This let the #2 to go at precontact position and take fuel. Same for elements if present. Then, I contact the tanker again to take fuel on my own. When refueled, I call “rejoin” to my flight to determine the end of refuel. Don’t forget to call the tanker for “back to pre-contact position”.

@coral36 Yes absolutely, it worked fine with “back to pre-contact position”. It wasn’t like you have to refuel on your way to target, just tested that. I destroyed target partially went for refuel then went again to attack then went for refuel. It worked fine. It’s good we have the pre contact option. I’ll be testing flying with four ships (three AI’s) and see if I can have the elements refuel before wingman.

it is very likely that you didnt release the tanker properly the first time , and yes there are bugs in this area that have been adressed since/

@mav-jp As a lead of a 4-ship with 3 AIs, it would be realistic to be able to tell the element (#3+4) to go and refuel, before #1 and #2 refuels later on. With 4 humans, this works flawlessly as long as #1 and #2 stays more than 10 nm from the tanker when the element calls into the tanker.
Has that been considered as an element command ?

yes, this is implemented in 4.36
-
@mav-jp Wow, that is brilliant, thank you and the rest of the team !
-
yes I just tested it and it’s currently not possible to have the element refuel first. Thank you very much for the good news about 4.36, this feature is very important. If you can do that then perhaps we can even tell #4 to refuel before # 3 because #4 is the only ship that looses lots of pounds first. One more thing I noticed, when the tankers speed reads 290 I always have to maintain a 300 (on calculated “c”) to be in formation with it. Is that an area that needs an update or is it accurate the way it is now
